At senior discount day today at the Salvation Army store I found a bunch of individual meal MREs.. I got a couple of a couple varieties.. As I remember those things from years ago, they are either really good or really bad.. Enough about that..

I couldn't find ...best by... dates on these, but they were military grade meals as they had the flameless meal heaters with them.. The meals were $2.99.. Looking on Google just the meal heaters are priced from $2.50 to $4. each.. The two varieties I got the main meals were both good.. Right out of the package or warmed up were good. The sides that come with them are always good, so I didn't open any of that.. Going back to the Sally Ann tomorrow to see if there are more available...

Homemade MREs... About 15 years ago now I was given a US made humanitarian 24hr MRE (vegetarian) labeled ..from the people of the USA.. It was about 500 cubic inches and contained many off the shelf packaged components.. Since then I have watched many you tube videos of how to make you own meals.. Using 500 cubic inches as a size guideline.. The other criteria I used assembling meals was all local available products.. I used to make up meals as I spent the day in the bush harvesting firewood. Or staying overnight in the bush moose, bear hunting, firewood harvesting..

Anyone with ...homemade... facts, details, experience ??

LOL! So I have been told! I've never eaten one, but I did buy a couple at the local Army-Navy Surplus store a few years ago. I should have taste tested them, but I did not.

Daughter and I like miniatures and the MRE's sometimes have miniature or very small sauces in bottles. BTW, the last time I was at WM a couple months ago, they had a whole display of individual condiments in a bin, all mixed together. I didn't buy any but thought that they would be good in 72 hour food kits or BOB's.

Am I the only person who thinks the old MCI meals and MRE's were haute cusine? In the Army I used to look forward to a break when I could get out my P-38 and enjoy one of those delectable meals right from the can. And then MRE's came along with those heaters, man that was heaven. Yum-yum!
