I think the suggestion of medical people is, after you turn 50 y/o you should get a colonoscope procedure every five years.

What slightly funny, is the current doctor teams people call several times a day with procedure information. I tell them this is not my first time to the rodeo. They get it & giggle. There will likely be professionals involve in some compacity who were not born 30 years ago.

Think of this as "PREPPING" for survival.
For a few dollars more add an Endoscope.

Translating the original post, please give this colonoscope procedure some consideration.
I am very pro-colonoscopy.
I wish they would call it a 'polyp-pruning' (which is what it actually is).
2 of my brothers died at 65 from colon cancer. :(
I would have died of it when I turned 65 also, except I got my polyps pruned twice beforehand.
...They even gave me great color pictures of them before they got snipped off!:D (the 14mm one was awesome!)
No polyps = nothing to grow cancer from!:dancing:
(sorry, should have started with a soapbox alert:rolleyes:).

Absolutely get those tests. Our oldest son died of colon cancer 2 years ago because he never went to the doctor. When he went to e r it was already in his bones.

My husband had colon cancer surgery last Feb but it was only stage 2. Now he has lung cancer and they say it traveled from the colon. They said it skipped the liver and it is not uncommon. They will decide this month whether surgery or chemo treatment only. Actually they suggested that he do nothing since he is 86. I told them in no uncertain terms that he WILL be getting whatever treatment he needs one way or another. His family lives into the late 90s and he is very healthy and active otherwise.

If your family has history of polyps or other colon issues, they're going to recommend siblings and children get their first at age 45.
I get mine based on Dr recommendation. I just got mine (and had polyps) so I think he wants me back in 3 years.

TMI alert!
Cologuard is a test. It only tells you if you really need a colonoscopy.
A colonoscopy is pruning, if you need it.
The defective gene to grow polyps (that go cancerous) is inherited.
When I got my first 'pruning' done, after the anesthesia wore off, the Dr walked in and I said:
"I hope it was just a sightseeing expedition?"
He walked over, looked me in the eye, slowly shook his head and said:
"You're exactly the guy we are looking for!"
...Then he showed me color pictures of the work he did. :eyeballs:

Yes, colon cancer death is 100% preventable, nobody in the USA should die from it today.

Check out your doctor before hand....some doctors do not do a good job and cause problems... Just saying.....If you live out in the hinterlands and there are not high end customers for the docs and the hospitals or surgery centers have a hard time getting good doctors you might be better off traveling to some place that does have a higher level of care and expertise.

My advice for those about to have a colonoscopy is to buy the best and softest TP that you can afford.
I don't want to give anybody an excuse to skip a possibility 'lifesaving' procedure...
"Well, I don't have any soft TP, so I'm just going to skip it"
It's all over in a day and a half. And after it's done, you start over with an empty-slate. No TP needed the next day or 2. :D
In the TMI department, polyps are like a bomb with a really long timer...
But when one 'detonates', it spreads cancer all over your body like wildfire!:eyeballs:
The polyps that are removed, only make a quiet thump when they hit the bottom of the trashcan.:woo hoo:

My recommendation, based on the experience of having 3 colonoscopies, is using extra soft TP for just the day or two before the colonoscopy when you're running to the bathroom every few minutes emptying yourself out for the procedure. After the procedure I go back to using my regular TP.

My recommendation is just use soft TP all the time. ;) When I travel, I always take my Charmin Extra Soft with me. ;)
