It's not as important who's paying for it, rather it's who's going to be using it! (not that I don't mind if someone else were to pay my bills for a change)

And if the trigger isn't 'right', you can change that with a simple spring change on many guns (but not all, so double check this with what you're liking). Most guns have too strong a trigger pull out-of-the-box. And any gun can fail to perform if not cleaned/maintained. Other than your body, I don't know that there is any other more important piece of equipment that is more important to maintain than your gun and your car (both can kill or fail to kill people). $0.02 added, we're almost up to a nickel!

When I watch reviews of semi-auto firearms, my min concerns are ---- failure to feed and failure to eject. After that is becomes a personal choice, how does it fit my hand, available accessories, and price point. Most folks will never shoot enough to actually wear out firearm, so barrel life is a moot point, same with most of the other parts. JM2C
I understand your concerns, but I disagree with you.

Glocks have withstood torture tests that involved ridiculous extremes of neglect and abuse, and they still fired perfectly well.

My cheap Makarov has reliability on par with a Glock, but for different reasons.

With a small stockpile of spare parts, springs, primitive tools, a supply of cleaner, oil, and grease . . . a person could keep a good gun up and running for maybe 400,000 rounds. In most guns (not my Makarov), a new barrel can be just dropped in with minimal or no fitting.

The military documented such round counts in some of their WWII 1911 .45 pistols.

Another reason I stock lots of parts and ammo (besides SHTF) is that I worry that the sale of guns and ammo in our country will be heavily curtailed.

So, I'm stocked up. I also believe that my guns (and associated parts) will appreciate in value if I decide to sell a few in such an eventuality.

@Kevin L

We have a failure to communicate. I was making the point that most people will never shoot enough ammo to need to worry about barrel life or spring life or any other other minor but critical parts. Yes Glock and many other guns have gone through torture tests. I do not plan to drop my firearms into mud, then sand , then water to see if they will continue to work. If properly maintained, and properly operated, almost all firearms will function correctly. Yes professional shooters may shoot a 1,000 per week, most shooters may not even shoot a 1,000 rounds per year. Even cheap ammo, ain't cheap, when you are talking a few hundred rounds per range visit.

I have the S&W M&P9 shield and have to say I love it. Fires comfortably and just feels great in my hand. It does have a little more recoil than my heavier 9mm but not bad at all. Even though with it’s a thin profile I find it barely fits in my pocket. I’m envious of women carrying purses.... I have a Taurus tcp 380 that has become my ccw now, due to I don’t even notice it in my pocket. It isn’t nearly as nice a weapon, but for something that I don’t mind if it gets scratched up by daily carry, I think it was a great choice.

I second the S&W M&P9 shield, the wife loves her's (her's is the 40) I like it better than the M&P compact.
