Most of my neighbors, speaking in circular terms as I live on a circle, are already like minded individuals who are capable of surviving alone or as part of a mutual aid group. We often discuss things like SHTF in general terms while shooting at the range or having our annual block party. We are mostly current or former (as in recently separated) military, LEO's, or similar. Although we do have a teacher, a dentist, and a horticulturist as well.

That is so good to have such a group of people but down here most people are not locals or in many cases even from the state.

We have had a few Neighborhood Watch Meetings where a seputy from the sheriffs dept came out to give us good advice and signs to put up to warn intruders.

Last one about 6 or 8 yr. ago though, since bout 5 new residents.

I'm just ignoring everyone. If a neighbour wants a meeting, I'll go so as not to be the only absentee. With this virus I doubt that anyone wants to gather a group in their home and I certainly don't.

Car thisis so true and around here most are socialble at a distance but we all do have phones. our last neighborhood watch peopel sat scattered at a fair distance. We do have a 2 retired nurses one wife of retired Navy Master Cheif and one policeman. But they stay to themselves.

I talked to a lady yesterday that has been here for years and we know pretty well. Asking her about any news she said not really,so thats good I guess. also talk to some we pass in vehicle on dirt road or catch us at mailbox and all so far are ok.

We always have extra eggs so I was thinking about just putting several dozen at crossroad for whoever wants them. don't really want to advertise we have them but many will probably know who put them out.

I make it a habit to wave at all my neighbors but I do not stop to talk to them except the ones on the other side of the pasture. We share a well and they pay for half of the electricity and water softener.
One guy across the loop I see occasionally. He would be a very good guy to have around in a crisis. He's a master welder and general handyman. The biggest majority are Hispanic and belong to 1 or 2 different families so we would be the outsiders. I just count on being on our own.

@Cascadian , it may be time but then its also good to know what you may be dealing with in a ' shtf ' event. Not up close of course.

@backlash, out of about 50 families only 2 are latinos and one is black and seem ok not that we know them but do speak in passing in vehicles. One walks with her dog for exercise. The Porta Ricans have been here for years watced their son grow up ,graduate join USMarines. Great well manered young man . Others are preppers and gun enthusiest.

Anyone think of how your neighbors will react if shtf?

Which ones will be an asset and which a liability?
Should you have neighborhood meeting or just ignore everyone?
I kind of am thinking we are in a bit of SHTF now. I know the worst has yet to come, but it could be here before the end of this or next year.

I am not that close to my neighbors, but I do try to be friendly. I just keep to myself mostly. I've been in all of their homes. One man descends from Quakers and embraces those teachings. His ancestors used to live on Nantucket where other Quakers settled. You know what that means, don't you? Quakers do not believe in violence, so he wouldn't have any guns for self protection and would be opposed to any use of a gun. I am sure he is opposed to gun ownership. I think of someone breaking in and demanding something. He would try to reason with them and would give somethings. He sometimes shovels my walks and sometimes I shovel theirs.

He sent out a group text earlier this week and asked if anyone needed anything from the grocery store. I asked for some half and half for my coffee. I already had some but always buy extra because the dates are a month out and I will have it when I need it. I also want people to think that I am not the storehouse for needs. He picked up a few groceries for a few of us, but not much. He will be an asset in some ways, but a deficit in others.

We had a big, big snow storm several years ago. A few men in the homes close to me got together and cleared out people's driveways and walkways. I like that they worked together on this. It says there is already some cohesiveness and willingness to help others and perhaps to protect the area. I see that as better than other options, but no one has a strong fighting ability. The neighbors are all city people.

Should we have a neighborhood meeting? Maybe, maybe not. It would depend on many factors. What would the purpose be? What would be important to discuss and to put into place? What would you not mention or discuss? How could neighbors work together?

I'm not a very trusting person.
We have only one close neighbor (1/2 mile away). We are good friends and they are very well prepped. The only trouble with them in a bad situation is they are very nice people. Hopefully their cop son will be there when the time comes. I think he is a little more like me.

SHTF and a tree falls in the road or somebodys livestock gets loose these people come with chain saws and help find animals. One way out private road so road block affects us all.
We have storms one year 5 hurricanes we got damage from outside most .
We did have some kids breaking into peopls homes and people watching out for each other stopped that. Most people here are mostly rural and know how to make do and survive.I'd say about half go to church. We have a gun club that last I heard had a 2 year waiting list but people stillpractice on their won property, alot. Our city slicker dogs almost had nervous break downs when we first moved here they always had tail tucked and walked around like cats.

If the current gun club has a two year waiting list, it sounds like it is time for another gun club, not that you would have to belong. Gun clubs would be places where you might find like minded people though.

Most of the people out here are ranchers with a smattering of retired LEO'S and military. 90 miles to the grocery store so everyone stays stocked up pretty well.
Wow! That is a distance! Grandparents lived 50 miles from the grocery store and they did not get to town sometimes for months.

Are you on local power or do you have your own set-up? How is phone reception out there? And you must have the internet.
