Nice side effect of woodworking

I am doing the finish trim on my sons house finally. I have stacks of rough sawn lumber that I'm making all the mouldings and trim from. This is one nice benefit of woodworking. I have loads of kindling for next winter. I fill boxes and bins with the leftover scraps and have never run out of starter yet. When you wake up to temps in the 20's, it's nice to be able to get a fire going quickly and easily.

I started when I was a teen. I was too poor to buy furniture, so I bought some boards and a circular saw. Almost forty years later and now I have a full woodworking shop and through trial and error have gotten pretty good. I'm no master craftsman or anything but if I see something I like I can usually go home and replicate it. I just wish I had more time to make furniture. I have a stack of 1x12 black walnut boards planed and sanded that hopefully will be a trestle style table sometime before too long. Walnut is the most beautiful stuff I've ever built with.

That looks really nice Brent. Last year I got a load of almost clear cedar lap siding that I was going to side a building with, but changed my mind. I started cutting it up for kindling. Should last the rest of my life. Cedar burns hot and fast.

Yeah I've been known to chop up a usable piece of lumber for fire before too. I have a bunch of 6x6's that have been picked through a few times and aren't the prettiest so they will probably become firewood thIs winter.
