So, for Nike's "Just Do It" campaign, they decided on Colin Kapernick as their spokesman.

What marketing genius thought this was a good idea?

Let alone, which execs bought into it.

Their shareholders responded....(and likely will further, this week)....

It's funny. Nearly every article talks about Nike's shoes, but seems to be forgetting that the company is about MUCH more than just shoes. Sure, the target market for shoes may not be as miffed by it, but there is a LOT of other equipment where sales will suffer from a boycott. Guess we'll see who is right, and who is wrong.

The odd thing is that Colin Kap....has a lawsuit against the NFL. So basically Nike is sticking him in the face of the owners.

That, in itself, is a horrible business move. What if all owners said "to hell with the Nike shoe contracts, etc".

Seems that this decision was not thoroughly thought through

Yet every analyst points out how Nike used committees, etc. to arrive at this decision. In March, the NFL and Nike made a deal for Nike to provide uniforms for 8 years. Somehow, I see that deal going bye bye. I'm sure that's just one such deal that may now be in jeopardy. It's about far more than just shoes.

I'll bet Addidas' salespeople are already hopping on some planes.....LOL.

Yes Gazrok, on Twitter people are saying Adidas doesn't even need to advertise because Nike is automatically sending them customers.

Also, many are posting the letters sent to their brokers to drop any mutual Fund that has Nike.

As you said, they are already seeing the effects.

You know, Nike is every part of Portland Oregon, Oregon State University, Would you really expect less? People in Portland and Beaverton were jumping for joy over this. Phil Knight is an ******* who always support liberal causes just like Gert and her son Timothy Boyle of Columbia Sportswear also of Portland.... Portland liberal trash

Probably focus groups. Attended by snowflakes. Real people don't have time to attend focus groups.

Yep, same reason the polls were wrong in 2016, because real people don't have time for pollsters' nonsense.

I look at this as a opportunity ,this deal will drive their stock price down how far remains to be seen,if it is major as I expect,,,, the cap ad won't last long,,,,they will take their losses dump him and over time rebound,,,,,buy at their lowest point and you could walk away with a tidy profit

[QUOTE="Arcticdude,,,,,,,,I think football (American football) sucks.

that is unAmerican,,,Football is in my opinion the best of team sports,,,,I guess you must be a soccer fan,,,,now that crap blows big time[/QUOTE]
You gotta be kidding GG. American football is just a bunch of over paid plastic coverd wimps that run around patting each other on the butts. They call Time Out every time one of them gets a boo boo on their little finger, they show unlimited replays and have never ending brain numbing commercials.
When I worked for British companies overseas I did watch real football at the pub with my Britt co-workers. Now I don't waste my time watching any sports.

did you ever play the game,,,,,,I doubt it,,,or you wouldn't be bashing it,,,,players are over paid no doubt about that,as for calling them WHIMPS,,,,try saying that to their face, you would get your head ripped off

I think this is GREAT. I think people were forgetting about the disrespect that the NFL all but endorsed. This brings it front and center for the start of a new season. For all the guys who were about to start watching the game again, many are saying "Nope, can't do it." Fantastic.

The NFL has never stepped up to say this was wrong. They need to continue to suffer for that. I don't think Nike will keep this up. Yes, they want some controversy to put their brand name in front headlines, but this will be too hot and it won't go away. They'll quietly run this for a bit and bury it. At some point their business sense will overtake their head-in-sand Leftie mentality. Or maybe not, others like Adidas will be happy to pick up the business they throw away.

I think American football USED to be the all-American game. It has gone leftie, it has gone big-business. They are out of control. I don't know what I would now call the "American Game" any more. A place where athletism and excitement and good character meet. I'd say it follows individuals more than whole sports. Tebow for instance. I'm sure each sport has a couple of people like him, but no more than 5% total. And 5 times more Kapernicks than Tebows.

So let the NFL lose another 10% of viewership this year. And let Nike loose at least that. Good.

Nike is getting publicity that can't be bought. Getting their name out there for sure.

Whatever. Neither Nike nor the NFL has ever received a penny from me, and never will. I don't like any of the cheap Chinese crap that Nike sells, and I think football (American football) sucks.
I'm so frugal that I don't bother buying new stuff very often and I don't watch sports. I can barely stand to have the TV on, it's a bunch of crap programming most of the time and they only want to sell you stuff that you don't need.

Not wrong, hehe.... It does seem like that, lol. Still though, they are plastic covered tanks....

When I think back to when as a kid, even a young adult, and played full contact rugby sans pads....man, what the hell was I thinking? (yeah, I know, explains alot...ha ha ha....).

I'm betting their stock is at around $70 by the end of the week.

Im thinking local school games and such only until the pro's get straightened out . Once the crowds disappear and viewer ratings drop it wont take long .
Glad NASCAR is not envolved . They Pray and have the Anthem everytime .

The one driver lost his sponsor over something his father had said 30ish years ago.

That's political correctness run amuck
