For the moment we are in Gastonia on about a 1/2 acre, and it is ok. Our plan is in about 2 years to buy a farm in the mountains and try to self- sustain more! What about you?

I know that depending on location on NC you get snow ice cold. But not 5 months of it,All of my hobbies I do in the spring summer and fall,I ride my motorcycle,I shoot, small game hunt, frsh water fish from my kayak,And go to local short tracks As Im into stock car racing as a fan,

NC here about 2 hours from the coast line. I love it here. I'm out in the country where if I want to go outside and scream my head off it won't offend anyone. LOL I very new to this site but everyone here has been fantastic. I've lived in the big cities growing up and took some getting use to the slow pace and quite of the country but after 38 years here I wouldn't trade it for anything.

well looks like we will be coming dwon to NC in June, we plan on looking around the winston salem, raleigh, greensboro areas

Your talking about the big city area's there my friend. Now if you like fishing, kayaking and hunting then your really better off either in the mountain areas are towards the east coast where we seem to lately have early spring weather and late falls. Snow doesn't seem to show up here much like it use to. To be honest I really miss that part of it especially when it's warm at Christmas or if it's cold it isn't cold enough for snow of late. LOL I've been to several meeting in the Winston Salem and Greensboro area and it's city life there and way to busy for my taste but to each there own. Anyway hope you find what your looking for. Let me know when you guys head this way.

Looks like were coming down June 21st. for about 5 days I not a fan of the big city either,Again Im sure you know, The unemployement rate in NC is high 9 to 9.5 depending on what part your talking about. So the most important thing will be to try and find jobs and see what happens from there.

I completely understand what your saying about the job rate. I don't see it getting better either. You do what you have to support your family and your prepping. Heck if you get that close you and your family could pop by sometime or we could all meet somewhere half way. I'd love to get together and talk about what we all have done to prepare for when the shtf.

We bought our tickets.going to fly into Raleigh and stay in town.My wife has friends she went to school with that live in Garner.I plan on going over to Bowman Gray on the22nd to see the race,As Im into stock car racingOther than that we plan on looking around Raleigh.Winston Salem, Greensboro.Ect. And between now and than looking for and applying for jobs,We dont have kids and dont have a house to sell or buy so that wont be a problem,Its the job part that will be the issue.Iwill keep all updated,David

Hello all just updating after our trip to NC.We put over 800 miles on the rental.Driving around checking out different cities and towns.Went From Winstom Salem, all the way to New Bern,We stayed just outside Raliegh.Went to Bowman Gray stadium for the races on Sat night. That was fun ,Also went to the art museum in Raliegh. Also the big flea market at NC state.Did some indoor carting which was fun.Spent Friday night in down town Raliegh. Went to a couple Harley Davidson shops. As I myself. And of course spent some time by the pool. Sounds to me like you had a good time checking North Carolina out. Look forward to hearing where exactly you will be moving to my friend. Please keep us posted and I wish you both all the best in your new endevers.

My husband and I are in NC, near the coast for now. We are starting to look at properties in western NC/eastern TN now. We have to get away from the humidity, military bases and .... "civilization"... really want to be off by ourselves somewhere because we're both so tired of being surrounded by people.

I live in NC. I live pretty much between Fayetteville and Raleigh. We have 1 acre here and plenty of room for all of our chickens. However if I had my way I would be moving closer to the mountains. I like the cooler weather. Even though I have noticed the past 2 years they get more Tornadoes there then we do here.

Welcome to DPF. I haven't been here much lately but plan on changing that right now.

Hope to meet more people from NC that are preppers that way in case if something bad happens we will know some wheres fairly close by, we have friends at least in the same boat as we will be in. Most of the folks in our area would up and leave if the crap hits the fan, that is why I am thinking bugging in may be a better plan then bugging out.

Hello all,Well we still plan on moving down to NC,We just had to delay it last August,We will be down there next month on vacation.Going to spend 4 days in DuckNC than fours days in Raleigh. We hope to relcoate withing the next 12 4 months or so.David
