We've all seen NATO/US MREs right? neat little polymer pouches etc. Well, the Reds still do it like we did in Vietnam with canned rations and I'm thinking if one had a vacuum sealer and the right kind of bags, one could make their own field packs easily if you had access to single-serve sized cans, one might even seal some serving sized bags of instant rice, potatoes, trail mix, soup, etc. and vacuum pack some crackers or bread a well, tea, bags of coffee or drink mix, maybe even snack chips! does anyone else think this is a good idea?

Semi-related; after they banned Russian vendors off eBay certain someones have been scalping looted MREs for ridiculous prices. Not to mention the thought of where they came from.
But if you manage to find a vendor in RF they're still cheap.

Yes.. DIY, homemade MREs.. Been making them for a long time now.. Kind of made it a challenge to create kits in the foot print of a 500 cubic inch ration I was given many years ago.. Used to have a big 3 ring binder notebook of homemade MRE and Just Add Water meals info.. Useful info in an adverse situation..

There's lots of dry mix meal recipes on line. Look at meals in a jar, just don't put them in a jar

Yes.. I made many ..Just Add Water.. meals in a jar testing recipes cooked over my old wood fired HOBO stove.. Some were wonderful, most were OK and filling, a few recipes were not so successful..

I need to work on that portion of my long lost ...Good Ideas... notebook..
