There is actual footage of certain people celebrating that over 800 years of history is going up in flames.

800 years. There has been a church fire in France averaging once per month for 6 months or so. It is odd that this happens during Holy Week.

I am also wondering about that. I did read that there have been several instances where construction mistakes caused cathedral fires, but foul play seems just as likely under the circumstances.

I believe it’s way too early to speculate on how it started. With the damage that has been done we may never know. All I do know for certain is the world is a less beautiful place with the loss. I’m eager to see what was saved, and what was lost. Even if rebuilt, it will never be the same though. The history, the beauty and detail are irreplaceable. I don’t think speculation and conspiracy theories are productive though. I do think that if it did turn out that it was a religiously motivated act that there is a good chance it would inflame untold violence on both sides. I know there are too many that seem to wish for this. Unfortunately there are too many innocent people caught up in ideological conflicts. It’s allready a terrible tragedy, I just hope it dosent get worse.

I agree with Brent, far too early to speculate. It can range from a mouse that chewed a wire to a careless mistake by a worker to terrorism.

What we do know is that this is a loss to historic structures. Let us remorse over the loss. If this was malice, retribution can come later.

I did see where Macron vowed to start an international fund to rebuild it. Huh? I don't remember Bush opening an international fund to rebuild the Pentagon after 9-11? Notre Dame was an asset to France. I do not see where it can be rebuilt and be but a shadow of what stood for 850 years. And even with deep pockets, I can't imagine what a religious-neutral surrender-to-islam France would build in its stead? I see this as just another brick in the slow death of Europe as we have known it. For that I mourn.

its a pity, so what? **** happens.
you lot have got muslims on the brain, if it isn't Russia or china its muslims.
it was more likely rats chewing through the wiring.

I read an article today that said that when the first fire alarm went off, they couldn't even find the fire. It wasn't until a second alarm went off that they found it, basically in the "attic" close to the spire.

There is no doubt the initial response was a miserable failure. The additional 28 minutes gave the fire enough time to be uncontrollable. Although likely unintentional, the complacent check done for the first alarm was obviously the weak link in this tragic chain of events.

So the guy walking into St. Patrick's was looking for his lawnmower that ran out of gas? What an idiot.
I heard he had two gallons of gas, lighter fluid and lighters. He said he was going to cut through the church as a shortcut to get to his car that had ran out of gas. They checked his car and it wasn’t out of gas. The world would be a better place if he just disappeared.
