A good reason why we all should have Bug-Out Bags. In the article below demonstrates why we all should have emergency fuel for the vehicles or keep the tanks full and have a BOL be it a safe place away from the danger.

"BREAKING: No word when evacuation order for 188,000 will be lifted as Oroville threat remains."

im not sure.but i think thats the one my mom n me heard about 3 or 4 days ago..it's bad news if it does go..on account the thousands/millions of gallons of water, going wherever it wants to.will take everything, and everyone in its way..we'd be out of there already,if we were living within it's path of destruction.on account.it's better to be safe then sorry..

thats so true..it seems like to me.that so much more people would learn from our past.instead of so few,if any..now here's ALL THESE PEOPLE,thats getting evacuated.and chances are.not any one of them, are prepared for this..
there seems to be around 180 000+ people very ill-prepped....not nice.

No matter how much planning goes into a project, there are always things that can go wrong. My advice is don't ever live directly below the countries tallest dam. The Hoover dam was built somewhere near 1930. Concrete gets stronger for about 100 years. Then it begins to to get weaker. More of my advice, don't build a home below it either.
Seriously folks, if this situation dosent reinforce why we all prep, then nothing will. Most of those 180,000 people had no advance notice before being told to leave. You never know what could happen tomorrow, to any of us. I feel for all those people, but not having a backup plan is a failure from the start. There is no way the government can sustain that number of people for any length of time.

I read where the spillway is just gravel and rock with no concrete reinforcements 1000's of gallons of water rushing thru it and not a darn thing to keep it from washing away,,,,,YEAH CALIFORNIA,,,,,,,THEY ARE SO SMART OVER THERE,,,,,,,,,a little sarcasm,,,,

The main spillway was lined with concrete, but erosion caused a collapse in it and they are trying to drop bags of rocks in it to keep it from eroding more. You are right on the emergency spillway though. The top has a liner, but then the water just rushes down the mountain side. Luckily the water has gone down enough that it's not going over that one now. This was the first time since the dam was built, in the 60's, that water ever flowed over the emergency spillway. They are saying that if this resevour goes all at once it will be a thirty foot wave going downstream. I'm still remembering the scene from the sunami in Fukushima and the one in Indonesia. This is one case I would heed the evacuation warning.

being in front of that water would not be a good thing,,it will take out just about everything it hits with no remorse

Though in all fairness the Feds had just as big a hand in the Oroville dam project decision making as Cali have had. Both Feds and State ignored the warnings and by all accounts sugar coated the dangers to the communities down stream. The insurance companies should have raised the issue 12 years ago when the warning came out and told the communities and State they aren't going to cover flood insurance down stream from the dam, this in turn would have raised a red flag with the residents. The insurance companies have access to Independent engineers that review the dangers as they do here in Washington, we have places here insurance companies won't cover because there engineers rebuff the States assurance. A whole lot of people dropped the ball!
