I actually weighed bales of cotton on this scale as a teenager, so long ago. I think it would measure up to 1000lbs, maybe only 750lbs. I really don’t remember. It now hangs in a restaurant I eat at occasionally.

This type scale was known as a “weigh-up” scale, common in cotton fields and cotton gins.

I felt someone watching me today as I was stitching. I looked out the window and there were two of these little critters watching me. One was a bit more skittish and flew off before I could get my phone. This one sat and watched me until he? got bored and flew off. According to the bird book, it's a kestrel.
