While looking at the photos I took of my bees this afternoon I noticed one bee that wasn't taking a poop... She was returning with a load of pollen.

Even though it's February there are dozens of plants blooming right now.

In the photos in the post above, 2nd pic look at the quart jar... middle, then to the right about 7 real world inches and you'll see a tiny spec of yellow... That's my girl with the pollen.

That would be us...

That's how the main street here looked until last year when the city changed the parking to parallel.
However, the businesses are a different story. Walmart built a new superstore and like they did everywhere killed downtown. Parking is no problem but there is very little reason to park because there aren't many places open.
The main street is actually called 6th street. There is no street called main street.

I know nothing about bee keeping so I'll ask probably a dumb question. What it the jar for?

The jar has a lid with dozens of tiny holes punched in it. I put sugar in the jar (half full) then finish filling it with water, mix throughly. I turn the jar upside down and seat it into the feeder. Bees walk into the feeder and lap up the sugar water.

Hey, everyone likes a sugary snack.:D

Thanks.

In the same photo of the bee with pollen I found another bee with pollen. This pollen is much darker. Not all pollen is light yellow. It ranges from light yellow to orangish brown. I have a chart somewhere on my computer that gives 4 or 5 different sources (plants) for each shade of pollen. It was neat to look at but in the end all you need to know is pollen being brought in and in what quantities.

Tip for the guys... pollen is almost pure testosterone... Pine pollen is easy to collect and put into capsules. :D

It's warm here today... Bees have some odd habits… mine, between 2 and 3pm (weather permitting) they all leave the hive for a few seconds, fly in front of it and then go back in. The reason…

They have to take a poop!

In the second pic I tried to put dots by all the flying bees who are pooping.

Assuming there is cold weather and they can’t leave the hive… When there is a warm day 100’s of bees can be seen removing poop from the hive.

So since you brought it up - forgive me if it's crude, couldn't resist- I wonder does their poop smell like flowers?
