I've always wanted to fly a glider, even a hang glider... But flying either into that dark cloud looks like a death wish.

It is not just a drought. It is a lack of planning and misuse of the water they had.
California, for example, would rather dump fresh water into the pacific ocean than water the farms and have drinking water for their population.

Actually, to be more precise, in California, there are many problems, all tied to our inept Governor. First, the Delta smelt needed more water for spawning, so they nearly shut off all the valves leading down to So Cal. Secondly, The Governor decided his future voters, all from Mexico, deserved to have fresh water from the Colorado River, therefore, is allowing more water to be dumped southbound so 10% of the river water now flows next to his future voters in Mexico, once they jump the border. Lastly, The Governor, has agreed to sell millions of acres of desert into the Imperial Valley to Saudi Arabia, so they can farm their own Alfalfa hay and almond orchards. .This sale is off limits for American buyers , and strictly exported to Saudi Arabia. Do you know it takes exactly one gallon of water to produce just one almond?

If I can please expand, according to our Governor, us Californians are using too much water. Although residents use only 5% of the water, the remaining 95% of water used is for agriculture. The residents (the 5%) are now mandated to reduce water consumption by 15%. The agriculture community (who use 95%) are exempt from any water reductions, although most of the farms belong to foreigners. Therefore, the 5% is carrying the load to reduce our water consumption, but the Saudi's are flourishing with unlimited water. Yeah, it does not make sense to me either except who is one of the leading donors to the Governor's campaign?

I am not sure how accurate this information is.

It's ok. If everyone in the rest of the country installs a low-flow toilet, all of their problems will be solved! ;) It's a Califact!

Of course they don't mention that you have to flush the one on the right 5 times to make stuff go down.

I had read that the waste water system in San Francisco had not been engineered for low usage flush. The results were backups and a pronounced smell.

Not sure if that was true.

Please do not misunderstand me about this, but I believe the problems in California have been going on long before Gruesome became governor. It has just picked up speed since he was elected.

Not to take this side bar too far into the weeds (pun intended)...

You ask a good question Weedy about the origins or CA problems. I like to chase these questions back mentally back through time. If we stop and watch the documentary

We see a snap shot from the 1960s showing that CA was "the place you aught to be, swimming pools, movie stars"

About the same time hippie chicks with flowers in their hair were solving the world's conflicts by shoving flowers into the barrels of guns. Aside from possibly Woodstock, anything, everything, and everyone that was COOL had a connection to CA. This was codified in the documentary

Looking into the future from that snap shot we see the culture (as viewed from the Appalachian foothills of SW PA) of CA becoming self absorbed and and self-righteous in their amoral march toward hippie nirvana.

Side note
Can you picture Nancy with flowers in her hair?

Another aside

Why are there no images of Nancy between 13 and 50 something?

But looking back towards the origins of CA is issues the documentary

Opening scene of Singin' in the Rain

We see where the media shaped

I intended to speak otherwise but will leave it to others to comment.

I don't think that's a job I would want. Never liked firefighting (navy trained), much rather deal with a flood. Wild fire is a young man's job for sure.

Found this a couple of days ago...

"We'll take 10lbs of apples and a pair of those cheap sunglasses!"

Weedy a friend of mine used to go out west every summer as part of a crew. That is hard, hot, and dangerous work.
Just seeing all of his photos with fire not far away is so scary.
A friend of mine lost her son to a fire. I don't know all the details, and I didn't want to ask her, because he was her only child. He was 20 or 21, in the service, and in Texas.
