Prepper Nurse Ebola, Collapse & SARS

Hi folks. The latest developments in Africa have me very concerned, as I'm sure many of you are as well. 40% of the cases of Ebola have occurred in the last 3 weeks. That means it's exploding. WHO has budgeted 1/2 BILLION dollars to contain it over they estimate 6-9 months, and at the end they are estimating 20,000 will have been infected with Ebola. It could cost much more, and infect many more. I feel optimistic that if a case does arrive on the shores of North America, the rate of transmission would be very small, and very few would be infected - I say this based on my knowledge of SARS in 2003 in Toronto. However, and this is a big however, it would cost a king's ransom to manage, contain, quarantine ie do the contact tracing, staff time, supply costs, hospital operating costs). My big concern is that it could push us closer to economic collapse, or tip us right over if the outbreak was expensive enough. However, I think we can learn a lot from the African experience about how to prepare for a pandemic. I have a question for you. I read today that some scientist had done some test using dogs and monkey to watch how the ebola virus is spread. The animals did not have direct contact with each other, but did get infected. They determined that it could be spread airborne. A cough, a person wiping blood then touching a doorknob, etc.. Just curious what your thoughts about that is?

what concerns me is the possibility for mutation, if and when it really mutates to something really airbourne and cross species, it's gonna be almost impossible to contain it,no money in the world can do that...when panic really sets in..well we're in deep ****

right now I don't have the extra money for an state of the art face/gas mask...so I'm putting my faith in a surplus Finish army thing, ok,not used and straight from the shelf and it's familiar to me

I caught that recent 40% jump as well. Scary stuff. I saw a some of the conditions those poor people are being confined in. You know they are scared beyond comprehension. I agree with the rate not being as bad in the western world. We have better hospitals, education etc. I do still think a lot of people will still die from it though, even here. I doubt this will be the end of the world, but you're dead on about the economic impact to us all. I'm almost ashamed of the way my government has handled it's finances over the years. The US is so far in the hole now it won't take much to push us over the edge. All I can say is I am glad to talk with others that are taking steps to protect their own and their loved ones lives as best as we can. Good luck to us all. Until we see airborne person to person transmission, we won't know that it's possible. I am concerned that the virus could mutate and become airborne. That is absolutely a real possibility, and if it does, watch out! Thank you Danil54grl - great question Prepper Nurse

It will reduce the risk of exposure, and that's a good thing. The most dangerous time for any piece of personal protection equipment is when you take it OFF, when it's contaminated. Make sure you disinfect it safely before you put it back on

thanks I will, right now I have my personal first-aid kit with me everyday,some facemasks, which gives me some protection.
I'm pretty happy I don't have the urge to drink, gives me some extramoney for my preps..

I learned to make my own! Not only does it not cost me anymore, but I 'trade' it for favors. Probably not the healthiest habit I have, but I start the day with a couple cups of good coffee, and then end it with 1 or 2 glasses of wine.

I haven't seen that yet between humans. I don't know if they were talking about animals. But there is a real possibility that it could go airborne between people.

Thing is I do NOT trust the government, FEMA or the CDC to give ME or anyone else the TRUTH and REAL factual evidence concerning ANY and ALL infectious diseases or gasses. It's up to ME to be as paranoid and cautious as I can be and to have my sht together. The herd may laugh at our preparations and our mistrust of the government but when it DOES happen, WE will be prepared.
They say that the disease can't be spread by airborne methods or by being at room temp for X amounts of hours. I say BS! If it can kill you, there is NO precaution enough to satisfy me. They said AIDS couldn't be spread by kissing but now we know that ALL (spit, tears, sweat, urine, feces, blood, plasma) body fluids of an HIV pos person WILL infect you and it CAN stay active at roo0m temp for OVER 8 hours. Ebola should be treated and prepared for in the most drastic manner.
To be honest and in retrospect, we will probably have more to fear from the Nat'l guard and FEMA Aholes who will be going door-to-door to "evacuate" you to a "safe" "internment camp" for 'your own protection' while they then loot your home for anything and everything of value or barter than we do from the actual bug its self.

One of the other members here (Bob?) wrote about how well it held up under water as well. The plastic has a multitude of uses from shelter to rain collection to a redneck Slip-n-Slide! Gotta have fun after everything has turned to ashes!

that plastic sheet is something very multifuntional, so I think it was a good investment,I'm thinking could it be used if by some freak accident I loose my heating in the middle of winter..cover the wall where I have windows..
