It can be as simple or as complex as you want.

If you keep airplane and other equipment you will need more knowledge/intelligence vs. guy uses a hoe and tiller.

Also theres the factor of if you dont know something it seems more complicated to you. Example someone never used a pressure canner will and often we/i/others read on various forums people saying its hard and they are scared of it.

the list goes on and on

I collect some low tech solutions to problems, to keep thing as simple as one can.
Like water collection & water heating without the Power company.
The biggest problem I will have is thefts, robbing us at night, protection is a big deal, morally &
legally.

There are different ways of prepping. I'm not exactly flush with "stuff", but I do keep some off grid survival things around. I'd rather know things, research things, understand how the local natives did things. Develop the skills to do what I need to do when I need to do it. Saving money and not spending it all on prepper stuff is a prep, right? I feel like it makes me better able to pivot to deal with whatever scenario arises.

It doesn't matter to the Ones who are trying to prep for One self and Family but, But, BUTT Others will place the "Learning Bar" ever higher and Higher and make a "CONtest" to others...!!!

Prep for Yourself and 🐝 Happy if You feel Happy and Safe, Nothing else matters...!!

People lived for centuries prior to the grid, sure lighting was poor, etc. SKILLS, and knowledge are very essential. the things people think are easy sometimes are, but can you do them with one hand in a sling?? Do you have good boots for all seasons.??

look at a bucket...seems simple right....go carry water without it....dont have one and need one..suddenly its highly intelligence...you either make new plastic bucket, wooden bucket, kill something to make a 'wineskin' to hold liquid or grow gourds for it. looks complicated now !!

AS an example we have it easier than the pioneers, they had to make every thing.
Today we have plastic & metal bucket that will last for many year, if you take care of it.
But one day someone going to need hand made barrows & buckets, that the skill to have.
