We are planning to stay put, if we have to bug out the dogs go, our kids are grown and have there own life's, the dogs are Lisa kids now. Even though this goes against all logic for my Wife sake they go! Lisa like all mothers will be extremely concern for the kids and for me to tell her the dogs can't go would be nothing short of being cruel to her.

My Dog, (Staffie) will be coming with me. No questions.
I do have concerns though, he is very strong, loyal and protective of me BUT i fear this could be his downfall. If something was going down, i really think my commands would play second place to his protective nature which could ultimately lead to his death. As much as it kills me even thinking about it.

We recently got an Australian Shepherd, she's a mid size dog and super smart (however stubborn to house train). Not a barker and very attentive to things going on around you. Ive taken her on several trips to our BOL and she hikes very well and pays attn. to commands. She has that herding tendencies that shepherds possess that could come in handy if I decide to get some cows or whatever. I'll definitely be taking her w/us if Stuff HTF. and was 1 of the reasons I got her for that just in case scenario. As far as food, well she'll eat just about anything, from lettuce to meats. I wanted a German Shep at 1st but the mrs didn't want that large of an inside pet, so we decided on her and glad we did.

Hubs has had several Aussies and Heelers and he loves them. Smart as whips, but Lordy, you have to give them a job to do so they don't drive you nuts. Is your dog out of working parents? The last one we had herded everything; kids, goats, horses, chickens, anything that would move, she thought she should herd it.

Our Aussie is only 7 mos old. and I don't think she comes fm working parents. We got her fm a kennel.
She tries to heard us and our other lap dog but she's 10 yrs old and wont put up with it. Puts her in her place. You're right though she is full of energy, thank GOD we have an 1/2 acre back yard and she can run like the wind. She usually plays her self right to sleep.
We also have lots of toys in the house for her to play with, however if you leave anything down though she'll pick it up and run w/it. Last week I was outside putting salt in my pool and I used a knife to open the bag. I put the salt out and then went to use the knife for the next bag but it was gone. I looked up and saw her running wide open w/it in her mouth, I yelled "drop" she did and kept running, never missed a step.
