Jonnte programming a UV5 by hand is a long winded nasty little **** of a job, by far the best way is using CHIRP, unfortunately the unit you are getting is programmed ONLY with the PMR channels .

I'm a touch of a dinosaur as well as a technophobe what I wanted was an IDIOT PROOF powerful PMR radio set for local coms, so instead of using cheap .5 watt PMR radios I got the Uv5 and removed the Ham freqs using Chirp ( I'm not licenced) and left only the PMR channels but at 5 watts, then I added the NA771 ant so I ended up with a 20 PMR channel 5 watt radio for local use AFTER TSHTF.

OK what you do ( I THINK) is you download CHIRP to your PC then you COPY an IMAGE of what in your Radio TO the Chirp program, Then you can edit it by adding and removing frequencies in the CHIRP document then you upload it BACK to your radio. So you need a list of HAM frequencies you want to upload. You may end up doing it in batches just to make life easier.

OR a local Ham user with a UV5 may be able to copy his freqs in one go for you.

Well this is where I get out of my depth, but looking at the Miklor site what I think you MAY end up typing the frqs into the Chirp thing one freq at a time I'm so sorry I never thought I would be passing those sets to someone else.
