I have an injured Canadian goose on property I just discovered about 15 minutes ago. It can walk but can't fly. I've attempted to call bird hospital, get a VM message stating if you have injured bird bring it to....such n such address. The address is quite a ways away..I can't take it there tonight.

Question: is it OK to put the goose in with my chickens in their area til tomorrow? I don't want fox or coyote getting it tonight?

Appears to be leg..not sure if alligator turtle got its leg or what in the pond..last few days there have been 2 along with 3 mallards hanging out together...its now just Roaming property by itself and can't fly...I drove back on golf cart and it walked away..limping..I came in to call bird hospital and and now I can't find dang thing and its dark...I think it's gonna half to make it or not til morning..I think it's hiding somewhere in palmetto bushes and I'm not going in to look in dark...ill check first thing in morning for it...if it's still around I'll get it taken care of..shucks!

Here, my wife’s Vet office can not take in wild animals. If Animal Control brings them in, the treat in the parking lot. She has treated bobcats in the parking lot.
I have to agree with @Illini Warrior.
Maybe a wildlife rehab person or center.

edited for this: With bird flu prevalent. You may not want to put in with your birds.

This might be of use to you.

CROCK POT WILD GOOSE

1 goose, skinned and cut up
2 TBS butter
4 garlic cloves, peeled
1 onion, sliced
1-1/2 TBS homemade worcestershire sauce
2 cups chicken broth

In a heavy skillet, melt the butter over medium high and quickly brown each piece. Place the browned goose pieces into your crock pot and set it to high heat. Add the garlic cloves, onion, worcestershire sauce and broth.

Slow cook for 6-8 hours, or until the meat falls off the bone. Shred with a fork and mix with your favorite barbecue sauce. Thanks for using my recipes for goose; these are great sandwiches,.

Haaa! I was waiting to see who was gonna to suggest I grab the pot and start stoking the fire! 😸

If all else fails than a 12 gauge 3" magnum with #4 shot should suffice. Than follow PP's instructions.
Make sure it’s not lead. 😀

Haa! PP, Arcticdude, EasternWesterner, Oddcaliber! ALL duly noted..Good advice! I'll keep on my radar.. For NOW, the ole bird is doing alright, keeping his job..😉 but I do like me some goose! Might reconsider come Thanksgiving! PPs recipe is in now in my book for future reference!

Thin strips cut against the grain, marinate overnight, wrap strips around onion, wrap bacon around that, toothpick holds it together, put on griddle smothered in bbq sauce.

I am curious if there is another goose hanging out nearby. Geese mate for life and typically hang out when their mate is wounded or killed. You might need 2x the bacon.

Yes, I had posted here next morning that I figured out the goose appeared to be out scouting around the property and I think female is on nest possibly. Week or so ago, there were 2 geese hanging out with three mallards around the pond. Not sure what happened to my post here. It disappeared. Anyway, I'm pretty sure female on nest, so likely we'll have a few more soon. There is small "island" toward back of pond and that's usually where nest is (years past). Can't see it without getting in the john boat and going out there. They usually move on not long after the little ones get moving about. This year the lone goose was a pretty far way up the dirt drive, long way from the pond just standing around. I thought he couldn't fly, appeared to be limping a bit. Now, I think he's probably ok. I'm leaving them to themselves. Thanks for the goose strip wraps recipe though. I'll put it with PPs!

Update on alleged injured goose....
It would appear goose is doing just fine..snapped pic of the 2 of them on bank of pond this eve...Mallard flew in and you may or may not he able to see the mallard took flight into pond when I went out take pic....male goose hissed at me...haa!

Oops! Pic didn't upload first try!

If you got them around now, they are staying And not migrating.

After you step in enough goose poop, that recipe is gonna look pretty tempting.

Yep..they are pretty much here every year...
Thank goodness only 2 seem to stick around for nesting yearly...I've had as many as 16-20 land in here and hang for few days or a week...but they move on after a brief stopover

Even in NY, they would stay all year if they found open water like mall drainage ponds. I see them all year long if I go to town here. Now if some would only fly up to my elevation.........

Here's the follow up on my perceived injured goose! 4 babies! 😊☺ Not sure you can see them very well..

Turns out I was right, he was scouting the property while mamma was on the nest...the day I thought he was injured he was so far back on property I couldn't figure why...and he didn't fly off at edge of dark...but he's been around Pond edge all week and this eve..the Two of them (mamma n pappa) and 4 babies walking around. They all hit the pond of course when I tried to snap pic....he seems just fine!

This is absolutely right. If a goose is sick or injured or even just getting old and cannot fly, a minimum of one and usually two will stop to stay with it. If it gets better, all three can fly on. If not, then at least the two others can fly on.
Since they fly in a V formation, the front goose has to work harder and the others behind him/her has it easier and can rest in his wake. They honk constantly and discuss who is next to be up front and who needs a rest. A single goose cannot fly long without this rest period. Two is the minimum to fly further.

The new baby geese are gone. Hadn't seen the family around here since the eveneing the pic was taken. This morning the Mamma and Pappa were in the pond just the two of them...I assume it was mamma that was honking in attempt to call the yongsters...nowhere to be found! The two of them finaly left. I am so ticked that I cannot have any outside birds, including chickens, ducks, etc. due to all the critters picking them off. We are not even in the woods or the mountains! So much developpment going on I guess they are running the wildlife out of their normal spaces. I was going to get more ducks this year to hang out in the pond and was thinking of guinea hens for the property, but I am afraid to get any of them just to have them disappear by way of feeding the foxes, cayotes, hawks and whatever else is roaming for that menu! I can't even let my hens free range out in the open. Aaargh!

Yes, there are catfish in the pond..not sure how big, my son fishes in pond, catches a cat fish every now n then, haven't been really big one's so far. Mostly bass, brim/bluegill, one time an ugly gar! There are alligator turtles also in the pond..who knows what happened to them? Something on land or water could have nabbed them up.
..Mallards are back this afternoon though on a positive note! 😊

Miracle! The geese with apparently juvenile offspring have returned. I can't believe it..I thought the baby geese got eaten by fox or coyote! Today, momma, pappa and 4 offspring showed up! Unless, they are family from elsewhere that stopped by to visit. Either way I'm choosing to believe twas the original offspring that disappeared! 😊 can't figure these damn birds out!
