Anyone use them regularly? I rediscovered raisins a few weeks ago. I was in the market snack section looking for something different and there they were… raisins. The lady with the red bonnet staring back like she has for the last hundred years.

I ate them as a kid, liked them, but somehow forgot them as an adult. Sure, they are in granola bars and occasional cake during the holidays but neither are foods I eat regularly. Does anyone use them with other foods. Salads? Stews?

Looking for a few ideas, anyone have good uses for them? Recipes to share? They seem to be an under utilized food source.

There are salad recipes and dessert recipes that call for raisins. In some other cultures, there may be raisins used in main dishes for meals. Sorry, I have no recipes with raisins.

Raisins are probably an under utilized food source. I have thought that they would be good in Bug out bags and maybe for long term storage.

They happen to be something that I do not care for at all, raisins. I omit them if a recipe calls for raisins. This is probably another food that was tainted for me from commodoties. I happen to not even be a fan of grapes. I'm not sure what that is about.

An important reminder is that grapes and raisins are considered toxic for dogs.

I put them in oatmeal. I also use them in my broccoli salad. I like them in carrot cake too, but I've never made a carrot cake from scratch.

I buy the big containers of them that hubby eats right out of the package as a snack. I also buy the lunch boxes of them for when he packs a lunch. They are an easy and quick stuffer for a lunch box.

Oatmeal wasn’t big with my family. Grandpa used to say ‘Oats are for horses!”. He’d sometimes say “At breakfast have some oatmeal and read the broadcaster (local paper), that way you can start the day with nothing on your mind or stomach either”. Don’t know which he detested more, oatmeal or the paper, 🤣 . I never ate an oatmeal cookie til I was an adult.

Funny though, the only cereal I ever buy is Raisin Bran. Then only once in a great while, I do like raisins. Can take or leave oatmeal, l never buy it though. Had it at other people's houses or the continental breakfast at a hotel.

and Don't Forget These :

Oatmeal as well. And oatmeal raisin cookies. Mom used to put them in rice pudding. Raisins are pretty common as a snack around our parts, and also dates. Date pudding time is upon us. I'll have to make some.
Me Likes those cookies with Cranberries in'em also...!!!

I knew a girl growing up who wouldn't eat corn in any form for the same reason. She said it was food for cattle. I wonder if she has ever figured out that there is field corn and then there is sweet corn.

Some folks put raisins in cinnamon rolls. I like them plain as a snack but not in things. They are a good snack when mixed with nuts or seeds - kinda the sweet and salty combo.
I have had them in and liked them in cinnamon rolls!! A friend's dad used to make those when we were kids! I guess I should make some!!💗😉

Home brew. Dandelion wine isn’t the same without it. Besides a darker color, that extra flavor makes a huge difference.
By the way, making your own raisins is a good thing. I especially like the cotton candy grapes for great raisins, though any grape would do. A regular dehydrator does the job quickly as does simply laying them out on a screen. Softer, sweeter in my opinion.

I eat them all the time. Put them in oatmeal, and many other breakfast cereals. I make a trail mix which is a 50-50 mix of raisins and honey roasted peanuts. I put them in all of the trail bars that I make for use and long term storage. There are many nutritional benefits, but they do have a high sugar content. I still eat them all the time.
