Looks like a FAL.

That's a tough one, my guess is a early model modified Stoner 63.

Since it's a painting I think it's one of these (FN FAL Model 1A1 7.62 Nato Cal) with the top handle removed, a front vertical grip added, and a 30-rd mag stuck in it:

Gonna have to agree, looks like the Aussies and New Zealand had the FN FAL in Vietnam.
So maybe the guy in the pic is an Aussie LRRP.
His camo doesn't look like the U.S. Tiger stripes.

To me, it looks like Aussie SAS troopies in US Jungle camo. I have some of those uniforms put away in my collection somewhere. The pattern is called ERDL. Aussie troops were only issued green fatigues, so some wore camo from other nations. The rifle looks like an L1A1.


Note: each rifle has a U.S. 40 mm tube mounted under the barrel
