Yeah, some of these things they come up with really are scary. I heard someone on one of the shows saying that El Paso was domestic terrorism and how with domestic terrorism they need to be able to do all the things they're able to do overseas and can't see why not. Well, maybe if they'd read the Constitution they'd understand - no warrant-less searches, no summary drone strike executions, no control of speech and press, no seizing of property or weapons without due process.

One of many flaws in these Red Flag Laws. They all violate the constitution. They skip over the requirement for due process. The skip over the requirement for search and seizure. They skip over the Innocent until proven guilty and reverse it to guilty until you can prove you are innocent. These are the liberals idea of the end justify the means. Eventually it will work it's way to the Supreme Court and they will be over turned. But that will take many years.

Went to a concert last night. They have lots of rules. No unsealed water bottles, no weapons, etc. I forgot I had my pseudo Swiss Army knife and they didn't even see it.

But, my opened bottled of water didn't harm anyone.

This was downtown Nashville at an outdoor venue. I always check for escape routes etc, but would have felt much safer if I was able to carry.

I went to a movie theater once where they checked my wife's purse. That was of course, the ONLY time we ever went to that particular theater. I'm sorry, but I'm not checking my constitutional rights at your door.

Technically speaking the owners can do as they wish on private property and the constitution has nothing to do with it because it applies only to the government. However, it may be wise to refuse patronage to businesses that only allow criminals to have weapons on their premises.

I don’t see a problem with some common sense rules for firearms. They are dangerous, so why is having some basic rules such a bad thing. I was surprised trump is ok with better checks, but welcome it. I have no illusions that a better background check will stop all shootings but even if it stops only one it’s a step in the right direction. Another thing I think is nuts is most of us here can buy an AR with a quick background check, yet we can legally sell it to anyone without any checks at all in a private sale. I have no issue with even private sales being checked out more thoroughly. Yes, I know I’m in the minority here but feel if these things slow down the insanity of all these senseless shootings it’s a small price to pay.

I agree that I don’t like going to areas that you can’t carry. I feel like it’s an open invitation to psychos of a place they can shoot up people with no risk of being stopped easily. It’s a scary world out there now, I like being able to defend myself and others.

okay we know that mentally unbalance people do this mass shooting so we should lock up all folks requiring mental help, if we can save just one life. We know that most guns crimes are committed in minority communities, so we should restrict their rights. to save just one life. Liberal logic applied to other things. How does that work for you Brent? It will save one life.

Entertaining thread.

For a movie theater, I'd guess they're looking more for outside food/snacks than for weapons.

And if someone buys a gun & resells it anytime soon, that's already a crime ('straw buyer'). I have a real issue with creating new laws that we can look back and it would change nothing. Which means most likely it will never help or prevent anything else in the future. How about instead we look at laws that actually address real issues and aren't based on opinions?

I know I've been talking about buying a new smaller firearm, 9mm.

I haven't purchased one yet due to various reasons, but am thinking on getting a revolver instead.

Questions, comments and snide remarks appreciated.

My husband is going for his CC and needs one so I'm going to give him my S&W.

Robin, ask yourself what are your primary objectives with the handgun.

A revolver is a very low-maintenance handgun. And typically cheaper.

A semi can carry usually 2-3 times more rounds, each round is smaller (less powder, just compare a 38 next to a 9mm), and reloading is much faster.

If you are looking for a revolver, the 38 is a very nice size. In semi's, I'd look at the 9mm or 380. If you have trouble with chambering a round in the 9mm, move down to a 380. Also the 380's can be even smaller all-around for the gun, easier to fit in places and carry. But it definitely doesn't have the same stopping power as the 9mm.

Tradeoffs... one big thing not to even consider: unreliable handguns. Saving $100 now and risk your life when you need it is a horrible tradeoff.

Great feedback TF. I carry in my purse and the 9mm S&W adds lots of weight. Maybe if I went with a 9mm with a small capacity it woyld help. My SIL has a 380 but I've never used it. My 9mm is rather hard to chamber.

I was thinking a revolver would be easier all around. If you cant the job done with 6 shots that's pretty bad. BUT, ther coyld be multiple assailants and I would need the 9 or 10 I can get into mine. I can't fill it because it's too hard.

Robin, 99% of the time 6 rounds are plenty.

Take your SIL to the gun range with her 380. You might really fall in love with that caliber. I've known more than a few women who struggle with the spring on the 9mm and are overjoyed when they first use a 380. And it will be much lighter than the revolver, even with a spare magazine in your purse.
