This is a example of a lift table, but not mine. I need a replacement cylinder & can not find one that is six inches closed. I am think of using a shorty bottle jack. Anyone done this or am I barking up the wrong tree.

Shorty Bottle Jack

they use something similar for picking up motorcycles and they all use a bottle jack. the main thing is how to pump it and then controll the let down.
Lowes sale that, but my table has a reservoir with two line to a cylinder, not one piece like a bottle jack.
I was looking at a shorty bottle jack, but at an angle. Using a hydraulic jack in a horizontal position requires that the pump be lower than the piston.

You and me both!

Who knew there were so many options in the world. Cap it off with MSC and you have everything.

Ben
MSC was good for machinist tools, but the cheapskate big boss, did not like us using it.
Lot of granger too

And most aren't like that. I have several hyd jacks and not one of them works horizontally.
put the pump at the lowest point and it will, unless the oil pickup is tubed somewhere else

Hydraulic cylinders aren’t difficult to rebuild, providing the cylinder bore isn’t wore out or the piston shaft is bent.

MC is akin to the holy bible for millwrights. MSC… the larger hard back version. Grainger? Good but not on the same level. Northern? Blah… but good for the home mechanic and cheaper prices.

Memories are coming back of when I was in factory maintenance… to get I what I needed I just needed the time to find the items in the MC catalog and fill out the purchase order.

Without a gasket or rebuild kit, can you fabricate a the seals??
My problem is I can not find the ####s to order the kit, if it is still being sold.

Something like that probably has about 8 seals and o-rings. Probably no gaskets.

Take it apart, find what’s bad… go to an industrial parts outlet that makes hydraulic hoses - they will also likely have plenty of o-rings and seals on the shelf. If they’re helpful enough they will even use a micrometer on the parts and find/order necessary seals.

Thanks, I have my own caliber.

If it has a foot pedal pressure release to let the table down…
You might be screwed.

Say so because I ran across that problem. It’s basically a non-reparable design flaw. There’s a spring with a steal ball seat… if the channel it operates in get roughed-up… the party is over

Further thoughts: Any simple bottle jack with a foot pedal operated pressure release incorporated into the design probably has a design flaw is not worth messing with.

Lift tables see limited use, relatively, and usually operate in good conditions. Seals and o-rings don’t good bad in situations like that.

Save yourself the headaches and hassles, just replace it with a bottle jack of ‘close enough’ dimensions with a fail safe screw in and turn out release.
