How properly visit the Russian bath?

Remember: do not visit the bath on a full or empty stomach, as well as after drinking alcohol (!!!).

Remove jewelry, they can heat up due to hot air and burn skin. Take with you: washcloth, bath broom, large terry towel, scented toilet soaps, shampoo. Bast should be hard and such that it was convenient to lather. Washcloths made from natural materials are perfect: fruit of loofah, linden bast, fabric or sponge.

By the way, in the breaks after the steam room you can drink cool kvass, tea or mineral water.

How to steamed in the Russian bath?

It is necessary to get used to the bathing heat gradually. And before visiting the steam room, it is recommended to slightly rinse with warm water without wetting your head. After you get plenty of water and enter the steam room, dry yourself with a towel, as moisture will only delay sweating. In order not to cause overheating of the head, wear a special wool hat for the bath.

As the profuse sweating begins, it is better to lie on the shelf so that the body can evenly get warm. And, if you are not prepared for strong heat, start to get used from the lower shelves. No need to set records, the most important thing is to feel good.

After your body warms up and you sweat well for 8-10 minutes, get out of the steam room, rinse with water and rest for 5-7 minutes.

Then you can bathe, giving heat to the stones with water, and disperse steam throughout the steam bath with a wet broom. After this, lightly pat the body with a bath besom either from one side or from the other. By the way, how to choose a broom for a bath and how to use it correctly is also an important issue and you need to approach it thoroughly.

After that, go out and cool the body in a cool pool, if there is one, under the shower, or you can wipe off the snow. But do not bring yourself to the state of chills.

The procedure with a bath broom is repeated three times, it is strictly forbidden to use alcohol. After all, the heart and blood vessels and so loaded and alcohol here will be inappropriate. Try to make your stay in the bath pleasant and useful to the maximum, so that the bath will make your health strong and not be able to harm.

Using a broom in the bath, you can get great benefits as a result of self-massage. After such exposure, the skin becomes elastic, silky and young. It also helps to get rid of joint pain and sciatica. Bath broom, made of birch, has anti-inflammatory and wound-healing effect.

Such a bath broom is used with increasing pressure and is a good choice for women with oily skin. Linden broom for a bath helps to calm down and is used for diseases of the bronchi, liver and kidneys.

Contraindications to the Russian bath

Despite the fact that the Russian bath has such a beneficial effect on the human body, it also has contraindications. It can harm those who have various tumors, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, stroke or heart attacks, ulcers, inflammatory processes in the skin, vascular sclerosis, acute diseases of the ears and eyes, epilepsy, tuberculosis. Even if there are even the slightest suspicion of these diseases, it is not worth the risk and go into the steam room.

Thank you for the wonderful info. Now is there a difference from the Russian Bath house and a Sauna? I really appreciated you pointing out the proper procedure to maximize the benefits of a visit.

The main and significant difference is in humidity and temperature. The sauna air is dry, humidity usually does not exceed 4–8%, and its excess by more than 25% is the most critical norm. In the Russian steam room, only wet steam with a fairly high humidity is used - up to 70%. Due to this, the temperature limits in the bath are almost 2 times lower than in the sauna. This is due to the fact that the thermal conductivity of high-humidity air is somewhat higher than dry. It is for this reason that in the steam room the body is heated faster in more gentle conditions for the body. When we visit a sauna or a bath, we consider the main task to remove toxins from the body through the skin, which is achieved by maximally heating the body.
In addition to temperature indicators, the Russian sauna and sauna have a number of other significant differences:
1. Bake. The presence of the stove in the Russian steam room is another important moment. In saunas, there is no stove with a mound of stones; electric fireplaces are used here, the task of which is to provide the necessary temperature regime in a short time and maintain it for a long time.
2. Ventilation. An important element of any bath. Ventilation in the steam room is carried out with the balance of internal and external pressure. Russian bath - steam room with excess pressure. At first glance, slight differences in performance are not strongly felt, but without these few millimeters it is impossible to achieve dry superheated steam in a sauna.
3. Bath broom. It is an indispensable attribute of the Russian sauna. With its moderate use, a health effect is observed - sweating increases, pores open, stimulating circulation. For a dry sauna use of a broom is unacceptable. Under the influence of high temperatures and low humidity broom leaves fall off.
4. Pool. An obligatory and important element of the sauna is the presence of a pool, the healing effect of which is achieved by changing the temperature conditions - hot air and cool water. The presence of a pool is not typical for a Russian bath. However, for a long time baths were built near water bodies. But if there is no reservoir, then you can pour cold water from a bucket or dive in the snow in winter!
5. Construction Materials. At construction of a sauna not only wood is used, but also modern synthetic materials. In this Russian bath in no case can not use synthetics. For centuries, the bath was insulated with moss, and the gaps between the logs were laid with felt.

More outstanding info. The only part I disliked was the diving into the snow. Desert dweller here, no snow diving. Thanks again for the detailed info.

well, nice to see that we have here another who likes bath/sauna too :) ,
would like to point out that a good sauna is never dry, that's the problem with those electric ones, a good old fashioned one you heat with wood,
oooh,it's very wonderful to be there.
you feel like reborn after that.

this is something we share on both sides of the border, love for bath/sauna

The saunas here have hot rocks that you pour water over. Honestly Tuman, before I read your post, just looking at the picture I thought you were going to say that a Russian Bath was just a dip in ice water (without the preceding sauna). We actually do have a lot of people here that advocate taking an icy bath for your health called a "Polar Bear Plunge."

tempering the body is very useful! significantly increases the body's immunity. I strongly advise everyone to strengthen their health!

I soak in a hot tub every morning. I figure it’s cheaper than Advil for my aches and pains. You had my interest right up to the point of the chilling off part, lol. I may not like the desert like some here, but I don’t like the cold even more.

Great info. As a Brit moving to Finland I was reluctant to take a sauna but I must admit I have become quite fond of it, even going naked in the snow afterwards. I haven't managed to pluck up the courage take the plunge in the icy lake though.

When I worked in Antarctica there would be some fools who would drill a hole in the sea ice and jump in. And down at the South Pole station they had a 300 club. To join the club the outside temp had to be -100f. The participants would heat the sauna up to 200 degs and then run outside naked and do a few laps around the pole, effectively running around the world.
