We have been forewarned. It will start on Saturday, and forecasted to be below freezing for the entire next week. Coldest we have seen this year. Lows are expected to be single digit.

Unless you can freeze whisky, it's not an arctic blast.

This coming week has us in the mid-20's with a little snow which is exactly where we should be for this time of year. I'd like some excitement - can someone please send a horrific snow storm my way? Yeah, I'm THAT hard up for entertainment.

@Cabin Fever, that's disturbing. If you live where hard alcohol can freeze like that, it may be a mite chilly. Go inside and thaw that Jim Beam out. Then drink it. It's the humane thing to do.

For those of us who live in cold climates this is no big deal. We've had snow on the ground at our place since mid November, first snow was in October. But for those that live down south this little drop in temps and snow can be quite a hardship. Our water lines are buried over 5 feet deep. I doubt if many southerners bury their lines more than a couple feet. We drive on snow and ice everyday during winter, so we're used to it, plus we have studded snow tires and carry tire chsins for extra traction. I doubt if many southerners do this. And something that I have a hard time understanding is, many southerners don't even have 4 wheel drive vehicles!

4 wheel drive don't even help that much.
When we lived in north Alabama, the guys thought it made them invincible.
We would get 2" of snow and I would wait until it thawed, and drive down the road counting the 4WD trucks on their side in the ditch.

For the few times it's icy, I look at it as a day off!! My Z71 sits comfortably under the carport!!

If we waited for our roads to thaw out before we go somewhere, we wouldn't go out much in winter. I have to disagree with you on four wheel not making that much difference. I guarantee that no two wheel drive vehicle would make it around the areas that I go, like my driveway or out to feed. I do agree that 4 wheel drive isn't any benefit in stopping though. Tires are what makes one vehicle stop faster than another on snow/ice covered roads. Wide tires with sipping, studs and or chains are the best for quick stopping times. All of our vehicles are equipped with studded traction tires and are also sipped. We also carry chains.
Many people, mostly flatlands who rarely get snow, do have that ignorant idea that 4 wheel drive will conquer any road condition, it helps a lot but its not a replacement for skill. It's pretty rare that we see a 2 wheel drive vehicle around here during winter. And then it's usually in a ditch, same with the smart arse flatlanders in their big bad pickup trucks.

Unfortunately I've never had a job that would allow me to stay home just because of a little snow or ice. We can have icy roads anytime from November through April. Some storms can drop 3 feet of snow.

Get ready everyone from Michigan down to Texas and all points eastward!! Dangerous temps and snow starting this weekend up north and blasting through to the deep south!! 🌬️❄️🌨️
Well at least it’s not a jovial artic blast. Those can be chaotic 😂

In all seriousness: y’all in the path stay warm and prayers to those still dealing with the effects of the hurricane.

It's supposed to be a real problem thru Jan 13th or so. Mostly because it'll be putting the southern states into zero degree weather, stressing their electrical systems, and possible blackout. We do fine in this weather, but I don't enjoy it. Supposed to get 5 inches of snow on Sunday, we'll see. And four wheel drive is necessary around here. My Challenger doesn't get driven at all in bad weather, just the trucks.

You're always keeping things on the bright side!
I keep looking for the bad weather reports but they are hiding from me.
