Requesting suggestions for Super-Super HEAVY DUTY men's cargo pocket pants. Most all are intended for desert environment. Not that phony "Ripstop" material. Looking for heavy cotton only, prefer 12 to 15 ounce per yard material. Thanks for suggestions.

I have several pieces of outwear by Filson and have never been disappointed.

Filson does have a pair of cargo pants that are 9oz. I might have to get a pair of these.

WARNING.........These are a closeout item, no returns or exchanges. And very limited size choices remain. "ALSO"........Study their size chart....carefully. It is very different than normal sizing. They are double tin, so they should be 18 oz. to the yard for the seat and front of the pants. I have a pair ordered. And they are "HALF" price with free shipping.

I buy only Carhartt and Filson clothing. My Carhartt pants always last at least 2 or 3 years working around the ranch. My Filson clothing and boots have never worn out yet. I used Filson tin cloth pants and tin cloth packers coat when I was logging. And when I worked in Antarctica I wore Filson insulated boots, Carhartt insulated bibs, and Filson packer coat with wool liner, same for Alaska. Ya get what ya pay for.

Duluth Trading "Fire Hose pants"

Note that "DuluthFlex" is a thinner, stretchier version of their standard "FireHose" fabric. It does not feel stretchy in use. It's simply "more stretchy" than regular FireHose gear. I wear the DuluthFlex stuff - the standard FireHose is TOO heavy duty for me.

p.s. - pay attention to pockets and overall design. Duluth has several different versions of cargo pants. For example, some have front pockets with horizontal openings. I don't like those and prefer the ones with diagonal openings (for pocket firearm carry). They also have different layout of the pockets. Some have flaps. Other versions don't. So look at them carefully to make sure you get what will suit you best.

These are the ones that I prefer (of course your tastes may be different):

My menfolk also swear by the Duluth firehose pants. They all work outside doing work ranging from sweeping chimneys to doing fencing and tree removals and other kinds of activities that tend to destroy clothing. My youngest son also wears them to church when I don’t see him before he piles into the car on Sunday.

After I posted this, I thought heck I'm going back to the site and order myself a pair. That's when I found out my size was sold out (I wanted the olive drab). Dang!

Same for me…

Dang.

I'll vouch for the Duluth Fire Hose being heavy duty. I never bought any because if I had to wear anything that heavy during a Midwestern summer work day, I'd die from heat stroke. I've had the Wrangler "Riggs Workwear" cargo pants, and I wasn't that impressed. I've also had Dickies cargo pants, which are a cotton/poly blend. They were ok but that blend was hot in the summer. I wear plain Wrangler cargo pants, like you can get at Walmart for about 25 bucks. Those have always been good for me, but not really heavy duty...

Me being a life long Po' Country Boy, I can't afford anything mentioned so far.
I'm a Dickies guy myself.

I wear Duluth ultimate cargo pants, that is my preference. Spendy but comfortable and wear good meaning they last.

I wear Dickies bib overalls for work, but their quality has gotten shoddy and the price keeps going up. I'm starting to transition over to Key bib overalls now. They're 10 bucks cheaper for a similar quality product.

Note that I dont wear Dickies cargo pants so I can't say anything about them one way or another. I have a couple pairs of Dickies jeans that are OK but not great, and I have several pairs of their canvas carpenter's pants that I don't wear for work any more. Those were fine for the price. I just started wearing bibs because I got tired of dealing with belts and suspenders. With bibs I never have to worry about showing off my plumber's smile...
