So, it seems the "NOOSE" is tightening.

So, I can't access my banking accounts, as my driver's license just expired, and I can't get new one. So, I spent most of today trying to figure out easiest way to get an acceptable ID. Which in my case will not be easy. While researching State and/or Federal ID, I discovered that come middle of May 2023 you must have a given level of ID to satisfy Dept. of Homeland Security.

DW's aunt ran into that problem when we went to the casino and her D/L was expired. They refused to deal with her even though she had a casino card there, and they love her very much.
She easily got a 'non-D/L' ID card and she (and us) returned with a vengeance 2 weeks later:waiting:.
Get even = 2 hotel rooms for free and 2 free bottles of Moscato rosé wine:thumbs:.

Yep, I just dealt with all that this year trying to get my DL renewed. I didn't have a copy of my birth certificate so had to send off to California to get. I live in Texas. First time, they lost. Second time, they sent back saying not enough money, even though I printed the form which actually said what the price was. Yes, It went up. Third time was the charm, BUT it took me a little over 5 months to get it accomplished. My only saving grace with my bank was that I have previously set up a password on my account years ago.

Oh sorry, last year. I'm still transitioning into the new year. I am proud of myself though. I sign a check with 2023 every time so far.

When we renewed our DL we went ahead and got the enhanced DL.
I read up and was prepared with all the needed paperwork. Wrong.
Needed a social security card not just the number.
My wife brought out marriage certificate but it was not a certified copy.
Back home. Got the correct paperwork and went back.
We both got our enhanced DL.
I also got by brother an official ID card. I then told the guy I wanted to get him and enhanced card. He said he couldn't do that until my brothers ID showed up then I could come back with all of the original paperwork and his new ID card and they would issue him an enhanced ID. I never went back.
If you have a valid passport that will work as well as an enhance DL or ID card.
The TSA has moved the date to have a real ID to May 7th 2025.

This state held me up getting a real ID. I had one in New Mexico. This state required me to get a certified copy of our marriage certificate before they'd give me one. I had a certified birth certificate, but (duh) my birth name and married name are different.
I quickly realized that each state is different, even for the real ID.

Real ID requirements have been around for well over a decade.
The deadline keeps getting pushed back, over and over.
Florida put the system in place maybe 15 years ago.
I went thru the hassle of getting my birth certificate and the other requirements, back when Bush The Younger was still president (I think - could have been Obama).
Even went the extra step of providing a copy of my DD-214 and my license has “veteran “ on it. Might help if I’m ever pulled over, a large number of cops are vets.

What bothers me is our driver's licenses were always considered "real ID's."

When the waves of "illegals", "Immigrants", "border jumpers", "asylum seekers" or what ever they are currently called, the state issued them the same ID cards as ordinary citizens of America. Now, instead of making the "illegals", "Immigrants", "border jumpers", "asylum seekers" being issued a different type of non-ID card, they make the legal, honest, law abiding citizens of America jump through yet another hoop, demanding even more proof of "real" identification to fulfill the TSA and banking laws. This is just a hidden error where the states make more money from it's real citizens.

Boy, I guess this turned into a rant, and maybe should be placed in the appropriate section.

BTW Rice Paddy, all my military friends are getting the DD-214 stickers and place them on their back window of their cars. Yes, it does work and your reasoning is absolutely correct.

Not in some states. Like New Mexico, for one. Illegals get regular driver licenses. And social security numbers could be bought for $50 at the McDonalds. One of the parents at our school went and bought one. So Kansas isn't like that, so even tho I had the NM real ID, I needed more stuff. So how is this federal if the requirements are different for each state?

DD214 sticker is available online.
Amazon and eBay sell them to anyone so they are just another bumper sticker.
Not something I would put on my truck.
My DL has veteran on it along with an American flag so if I'm stopped the police know I'm a vet.
That may have helped me when I was stopped for making an illegal lane change while turning left or more likely the State Patrol may have let me go so his lunch wouldn't get cold. I saw him coming out of a teriyaki place with his lunch as I drove by. :)

Yes, I have passwords with my banks. But if you want to draw out a substantial chunk of cash, you need valid ID.
What a pain! With all of the theft and fraud going on, a valid ID MIGHT prevent some of that. In Colorado, we can renew our licenses online. Or we used to be able to. I'll have to check and see if we still can. All things keep changing!

You can also in Alaska.....Till you turn 67 or 68, then you must go to DMV and take & pass an eye exam. No pass/no license. (I am 76 and have macular degeneration)

Florida has war veteran license plates that only veterans of that particular war can get. Iraq, Afghanistan, Gulf War, Vietnam. Right on there with the numbers/letters is a representation of the appropriate service medal.
I provided DMV with a copy of my DD-214 and for the extra cost of a specialty plate mine has Vietnam War Veteran and the Vietnam Service Medal.
That, plus bumper stickers on the back glass of my truck topper for 5th Infantry Division, VFW, Vietnam Veterans of America, and US Army.
Now, anyone can put on some stolen valor bumper stickers, but the “V” on my drivers license and the license plate required actual proof that I am what I say..

My DD-214 is of the era that it contains my Army serial number along with my SS number.

That makes sense why they want to see people. I knew you didn't have a vehicle, but are you considered visually impaired, or are you able to see well enough to qualify for a driver's license?

  • In order to renew a regular license, you must have had an eye examination by an optometrist or ophthalmologist within one year or, if you are 80 or older, you must submit a DR2498 Optometrist/Ophthalmologist Statement for Individuals 80 Years of Age or Older Renewing Electronically signed within the last six months.

My DD2214 has my SS#. I had a service number when I enlisted but they switched to SS shortly after. I still remember my service number because it was one of the things they asked in basic and punished those that forgot.
I remember when you could not cash a personal check on base without it having your SS number, address, and phone number.
Everyone just had their SS number along with their address and phone number preprinted on the checks.
How times have changed.
I have 2 DD214s. One from when I reenlisted and one when I actually got out.

My ex wife's grandfather earned a Bronze Star in Europe during WWII. He was an artillery observer. His position was overrun but he evaded capture and continued to direct fire from behind the enemy line for several days before he was rescued. Iowa has Bronze Star license plates. His family got him those plates. He was a little shy about the attention he got from them, but it was a well deserved honor.

I'm glad they have things like veteran plates to honor everyone that served.

"Stolen valor bumper stickers"---commonly seen on the rigs of illegal immigrants in Kalifornia. When ya look over and see what look suspiciously like two cartel meth runners in some rig, each about 20 years old, then notice the Vietnam War service ribbon sticker on the vehicle, it just screams "STOLEN VALOR!!!" 😠

But God forbid ya call 'em out on their BS, because then... well... you're a "RACIST!!!" 😕

you should be able to just surrender your old DL and they issue a no DL ID to use as a real ID.
NO......100% NO. You basically must produce what is required for a passport, to get a "REAL" ID as required by DHS. The banks require "REAL" Federal approved ID, which includes U.S. Passport & Passport Card.

I "FULLY" expect that post May 2025 all Americans will several times a day here the "ORDER" (Read Demand) Your PAPERS PLEASE.
