Bernie Leadon was the fourth member of the original Eagles. All of them had played backup for Linda Ronstadt. So the story goes, Linda asked them to tour with her, but Glen Frey and Don Henley got together and decided they would rather form a band of their own. Thus the Eagles were born.

Bernie had a country rock background, and he probably had more influence on the early Eagles sound than he is given credit.

There's a radio station that plays throw back Kasey Kasem shows on Sunday mornings. I listen to it in the vehicle going to work! Kasey would read mail in song requests! Look how far we've come .... doesn't seem that long ago!!

There were a few reasons to know. First, Linda Ronstadt was almost a neighbor. The house where she grew up is only a few miles from the house where I grew up, ergo, we followed her career closely. I believe we went to the same grade school, and would have gone to the same High School if I had gone to public school. She is a few years older than I am, so we were never in school together. If it is still there I could take you to the bar where she first stated to sing as Barefoot Linda Ronstadt.

Second, we had all done it and knew what it was like to stand on a corner in Winslow Arizona. It is a dirt water mining town in the middle of nowhere. Best described as "10 miles past Resume Speed'. We got the biggest kick out of those lyrics, and that made us Eagles fans forever. We didn't follow them as closely as the Beatles or the Beach Boys, but pretty close. I am still a huge Eagles fan. Lots of ups and downs, and personnel changes over the years. Hard to imagine it was over 50 years ago.
