By the title I thought you were going to refinish or restore a chair.

First fitting of a chair hanger…

It’s going to be tricky over the old piano. The drop ceiling is at 92”. I need to put the top edge of the 1x6 at 91”. This will give me chair leg clearance just above the top of the piano. I have plenty of room for the other two hangers, a 2 or 3” gap is fine.

I was thinking I needed help fitting the boards, someone to hold the other end of an 8ft board while I marked where I wanted screw holes. Then I remembered, I have some 1x4’s 96” long (8ft). The ceiling is at 92” so minus 4”… minus a 2” gap at the top, minus 6” of the 1x6… I cut 1ft off the end of the 1x4. Then screwed the piece of scrap to the 1x4. I used a long clamp to hold it to the cinderblock wall. Now I have some “thing” to hold the other end of a chair hanger while I mark screw positions.

4 chairs and a cooler off the floor! Approx. 14sq ft. of new space I can use for things like walking. Now I have 5 more chairs and 2 coolers to hang.

What a pitb this was! It took 2.5hrs to install this little light fixture, below. Calibrating a catscan is simpler and quicker!!! I had to stand sideways on a step ladder and contort my body in ways Harry Houdini never dreamed of!!! My back is killing me now!

There were no instructions and all the necessary hardware wasn’t included. Installing it with the supplied hardware didn’t work. I had to come up with a new way and supply my own hardware.

I’ve debated installing it for a month now. It’s just to better illuminate this last section of steps. I decided to install it because I’m going to install a board/hooks to hang chairs in that room. That would make wiring this light more difficult, better to put the light in now. I bought the darned thing, might as well use it.

Anyway… the light fixture is mounted, wiring is ready to hook up tomorrow.

Got the light wired this morning. Before and after pics. Much better than I thought it'd be. I can see fine either way but dad can't so this light over the lower stairs was for him.

Prepositioned the next chair hanger. There'll be fewer tapcon screw holding this one than the last one. This hanger will have the ladder back chairs which are much lighter than the table chairs. Almost 6lbs per chair lighter, about 30lbs less weight. So fewer screws won't be an issue.

Still need to get it marked up, drilled and counter sunk... then mounted, maybe tomorrow.

Prepositioned the next chair hanger. There'll be fewer tapcon screw holding this one than the last one. This hanger will have the ladder back chairs which are much lighter than the table chairs. Almost 6lbs per chair lighter, about 30lbs less weight. So fewer screws won't be an issue.

Can you not top & tail 2 chairs on one hook , I mean sit the 2 bum sections together , the hooks should take them with no strain

Would be safety hit n miss.

If someone bumped one the second chair could come down on their head.

Maybe with the ladder back chairs. They have a low rung across the front. The heavy dining rm chairs don''t have a rung across the front or back edge.

I'll check it when I hang the ladder back's.

4 more chairs and an annoying cot off the floor! That cot has been in the way since I brought it home. I bought it when dad was in hospital 3months. As cots go it's fairly comfortable so I'm not going to toss it. But its an awkward fit, doesn't stow very well. Seems like it should but it doesn't, always blocking something else.

Anyway, that's 8 chairs, a cooler and a cot off the floor. It's amazing how much more floor space I have in those two rooms now. And I'm not done, one more set of hangers to put up above the chest freezer. It's going to be a pitb to put up but I'm not stopping now.

valid point , as they are not in use chairs drill a hole in the 2 stacked & a long bolt through [ m3 size hardly seen ] the hole will hardly notice as one is sitting on them when being used , the same with the wicker chairs ,could push bolt through

I have 3 more hooks than I need for the chairs. Trying to double up the chairs would be extra work for no gain.

What a difference a bulb makes! The first pic the small light above the last section of steps had a 100w ‘soft white’ led bulb. In the second pic it has a 75w ‘energetic daylight’ led bulb. Both rated at 1100 lumens.

1st pic, the 100w bulb made everything appear a uniform yellow color, steps weren’t clear. My dad’s old eyes had trouble with it.

2nd pic, the 75w bulb I put in today makes everything clearer, more their natural color. And it uses less power. But cost about a dollar a bulb more to purchase.

The chair project is done! Finally! Putting this hanger up was more difficult than the other 2 combined. I had to build a scaffold above the freezer. My cousin had a rough cut oak 1x12 that was seasoned. It was strong enough for my weight, didn’t put a single scratch on the freezer.

The hanger doesn’t have as many solid tapcon screws as I would like but it’ll only have a few light objects like coolers hanging from it. On to another project!
