I stumbled across this video and thought it was interesting on how Africa has not only stopped the expansion of the Sahara desert but started reclaiming the land into healthy vegetation.
What I found most interesting is at the 4:30 mark where they claim 5 to 8 degrees Celcius, or 9 to 14 degrees Fahrenheit lower temperatures compared to the bare soil.
Considering this information, in my opinion, the "global warming" they are blaming on cars and factories and personal habits and cow farts is actually more likely caused by the expansion of cities where farms and forests and grasslands are removed and replaced with buildings and pavement.
And at about the 8:50 mark they begin to explain how rain is unable to soak into the hard pack desert floor but now that they have created a healthy green zone of trees and plants and grass the rain water is able to soak into the soil and regenerate the water table/aquifer. I wonder how much rain water is able to soak into the ground, especially in the desert southwest, where they have expanded the cities around huge metropolitan areas like Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and the many other large city areas around the world.
