For those of you who remember Pessimistic2 from the old Forum, I am a good friend of his, and here is an update....and I believe I'll stick around and take up space on this Forum. Pess was diagnosed with a brain tumor right after we got back from his mountain Retreat. He had surgery to remove it, the surgery itself was a success, but in the process, or as a result of the process, he developed amnesia and has completely lost the last 30 years of his life. His brother, myself, his cousin and the Bounty Hunter are doing all we can to get him "re-educated," and up to modern times. Physically, he has recovered just fine; the problem is his memory, and, I suppose, his change in attitude toward the SHTF scenario. He is no longer much interested in the possibility of SHTF, says people have been waiting on that since the early 60's and it hasn't happened yet, the country always muddles through. He and his brother have basically turned the mountain Retreat over to my son and I, and we will be heading back out there probably in June or July. Having spent a couple months there, I can tell you that when he was in his right mind, he did one hell of a job with that place! You just would not believe a million dollar BOL stuck off 50 miles from nowhere...Jesus!!

Me, I'm retired military, helicopter pilot (hence the Venom moniker), well over 10,000 hours in....just bought a surplus, upgraded Venom in fact, had a wee bit of work done on it, and I believe it'll come in right handy out West, since Pess's place is literally right smack dab in the middle of nowhere! Pess's pilot's license has been pulled, and he has sold the Jet Ranger, but both his brother and myself fly, so we'll get him anywhere he needs to go.

My own views on the potential for SHTF action is hardening, especially with the N. Korea situation developing as it is. Sooner or later, the US is going to have to deal with N. Korea, and it won't be pretty. The "domestic" problems are worsening as well, and crime is the #1 issue, and violent crime especially is just plain out of control. So I am a firm believer that SHTF is a distinct possibility somewhere along the line, even more so now than 10 or 20 years ago.

Don't know how much I can contribute to the Forum....seems like you guys/gals have everything pretty well covered, but I may be able to throw in a tidbit now and then....and maybe an old dog can learn some new tricks along the way.

So "Howdy" to all, especially those who are familiar with Pess, and send your prayers his way.

Very happy you are here! Pess was very fun to talk to. I like him very much. I wish him the best in getting his memory back! Im sure you wish more than i for the old Pess back, bit know there is a pile of us here pulling for him and very happy to hear that at least health wise he is well. So welcome to the group and look forward to your post. Thank you for your service, my father was a helo pilot too.

It's a rough territory to travel when changes involve the brain. Dealing with issues here in that regard. Let's hope that as his physical healing continues his amnesia also begins to resolve.

Every old dog can learn a new trick. Hard for them to do if no one tells them about it so have at it. We all seem to be pretty open to new ideas.

welcome aboard from north of the 49th, glad you wandered on over. Great folks here. Pull up a stump and set a spell.

Thanks, Bob (if I may shorten your handle a bit). North of thge 49th, huh? Wee bit chilly up there, yes? Ain't exactly warm here...low tonight 22, but that's nothing like you get!! Horrible for here, though!! (Alabama, since I am currently staying at Pess's place.)

Physically, he's doing great. The docs keep saying the memories will come back, but no sign of that yet...he is getting the cell phone and computer down pretty fast though, but he has no desire to get on the Forum...says it's totally alien to him now.
What did your dad primarily fly? I pretty much got stuck with Venoms and Chinooks...woulda preferred a nice sexy Cobra, but.......

Nothing that sexy, he was old school and flew the huey egg beaters.

It can get cool. Last night was -27c (-16.6F) but then we tend to be warmer than much of the country. Temperature is relative for sure. I darn near froze to death at-5C 23F) in South Africa one August because we weren’t dressed for it and had no heat.

Glad to know Pess is in good physical condition. I really miss his knowledge and fairness in debates.
He knew so much about so many things. History, religion and of course prepping.

Welcome to the site and hubby and I will keep praying for Pess. :Thankyou::welcome:

Howdy friend,

I sure hope you hang around the Homestead,
I too, miss the Pess man, and was truly looking forward to his return here,
And I still look for the day when he will reset his memory and will once again join us here.

Would ya tell him howdy for us ?

and let me say that you are surely welcome here.

Thanks for coming in and letting us know about our friend.

Thanks

Jim

Warm Welcome from the Arizona Valley Folks. Dead Eye and bear meat, Caverns and hidden trails. Hope you and your son do well at the Retreat. Give Pess my best and I hope he emails me when he is up to it. Cousin has the email address and you are welcome to write too. Pess shared a bit of info about you and your fast draw. LOL.

Welcome to the forum from Clifton Tennessee! Roll Tide! I'm originally from Alabama, but just have moved to southern Tennessee. I really enjoy it here although it's not Alabama.
I am new to this type of forum so please impart with some of your knowledge. I didn't know Pess, but I put him and you on my prayer list. Cancer doesn't care who it strikes.
