I agree V.J. but don't forget J.J. Cale who is also a great song writers too.
J.J. Cale was also one of the greats, and he and Clapton are a lot alike.
Edgar and Johnny Winter's home bar was in Vallejo CA, just outside the gates of the Naval Station at Mare Island CA. I was stationed there about 9 months. Johnny or Edgar would show up from time to time and jam with the local band at their home bar. The best show I saw from either was at the White Horse Saloon in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Johnny played blues for 2 nights with only a bass player who had broken fingers on his left hand and a drummer.
He put on 4 fantastic shows! It was awesome! 2 sets each night.
Johnny and Edgar Winter are definitely two more of the "greats." If you go back into the mid-60's to mid-70's, there are a BUNCH of really good artists/bands, many of which are being forgotten today. I could probably name at least 25 really good artists/bands from that era right off the top of my head. Some awesome music was originated in that time!!
