A blast from my past… The woman singing the lead vocal with the Doug Dillard Band is Ginger Boatwright. I love the way she sings this song. She used to pick with us at the restaurant. Her health was bad so she couldn’t make it every week. I need to drive over and see how she’s doing.

Some of you maybe asking “Who is the Doug Dillard Band”. Funny, all of you have heard them perform. On the Andy Griffith show they were known as the “Darlins”.

My buddy Jim kept us organized at the restaurant. He performed with Doug Dillard at the same time Ginger did. Her video was shot years later. Jim happens to be one of the founding members of the Bluegrass Hall of Fame. Every week he would have a “legend” come and sit in with us around the fireplace.

A lot of young couples and kids from the University ate at the restaurant. They enjoyed our music but to them we were just a bunch of old people playing bluegrass. They had no idea that each week they were listening to a Who’s Who list from the bluegrass world. :D

Someday, someone will come along feeling the same way as Peanut and Meerkat's hubby, and a new jam session will be born!

Y'all! Please try advertising in the local (and not-so-local) papers...post flyers in strategic places, and keep after it. Eventually the right pairs of eyes will see those ads. One day you may be pleasantly surprised, and will likely find new kindred spirits. Music is a beautiful part of us and too precious to lay it down without a fight.

We actually did put an ad in the local Advertiser about 12 years ago. Only answer was a man who played in a sympheny orchestra. Or people who drank too much or did drugs. We did go to the mans house who played classical orchestra music and he and his wife were good people, but you can only take so much of Big Band and Strauss on a guitar.
Then you have those who only play for money. Or already have a band.

Keep after it. If you are persistent enough, it will pay off. Eventually the right pairs of eyes will see those ads...even if it's somebody's friend or relative of a musician. Look at it as health insurance...(and it's a lot cheaper, lol!)

This one has a good beat but too repeatitous so I stop listening about half way thru.

One of my replies on another thread made me think of this one.

Jimmy Ruffin the brother of David of Temptations who sang My Girl among many others.

I have to get me another positive song to get that picture out of my head. Be back.

Thanks for posting that... don't know how I missed it until today. Up until about '12 I played bluegrass every Friday night at a restaurant in Tuscaloosa. They had a big fire place. We'd sit around it in chairs and play what ever came to mind. I miss those days. All my old friends have either passed away or moved away. I don't play anymore. :(
Sounds like you need to start playing again! We would love to hear you play!
