i've been updating what i prep for.how about you?

tornadoes, had one to close for comfort, earlier this year..
short term power outages,to total power grid failer
inflation to the point, where folks cant afford to buy things thats needed
pandemic
emp,natural and man made alike
WW3
terror attack from isis or some other terrorist group
global warming
financial collapse.(stock market and economy) going belly up..
total crop failer from drought,or something else
loss of job and finical income
getting snowed in,(to much snow and/or ice on the roads)
lightening strikes.
wild/house fires.
car wreck that kills me,but mom survives it,or she's at home at the time.she'll have at least some things that she needs, when it comes to what i've supplied for her.
Marshall law
new world order
earth quake?maybe,on account we have the new Madrid fault in Missouri.

Hmmm, well I had to think about this for a bit as I'm not strictly prepping for any particular event, more a need to be self reliant. I hate with a passion that I have to rely on anyone else or anything for my comfort and wellbeing. I was raised in a frugal and self reliant environment and that has stayed with me my throughout my life
Over many years I have been preparing for the time when I can put up a figurative two-fingered salute to tptb and live my life my way. I'm close to doing just that and I hope in 12 months or so to be pretty much out of the rat race, self employed, off grid and very nearly self sufficient in food and because of this, I am very much prepared for what might threaten me and mine, be it economic, civil or weather related.

as yall can see.im preparing for different things.but yet,the things i get for any one situation, will help out in the other situations as well..at least most of my camping gear will come in handy in each of them.like my tent, camp stove, lanterns, sleeping bags, and cot.will come come in handy if a tornado comes through.or if there was a house fire.we have a place to sleep and eat,in a shtf situation.

Prepping for the worst possible weather conditions I will encounter where I live. minor manmade disasters and the big grid down event. The worst thing I feel that would happen that is totally out of my control is the loss of my ability to remain on my land- forest fire postSHTF scenario. I do have a plan for that though so at least I know what to do should that happen.

Hmm good question. Maybe I prep to have something to do during the summer, because during the school year (I am a teacher and mom of 3 young children who have dance and foot ball and the list goes on) there isn't a lot of time to breathe or eat much less lay in supplies....:) I am preparing for the imminent occurrence of the rapture, the return of Jesus for his believers. But, that is a spiritual, in the heart preparation. Only I worry about those in my family who don't believe as I do, they will need something to eat too-hence the hundreds of jars of canned green beans and beets. I am so thankful that my two oldest children, 9 and 8, are saved. My youngest is only 5 and mentally not able to understand, yet anyway. Tornadoes are most worst irrational fear. Where we live in the smokies, they are rare. When I was a teen, I dug a large shelter, by hand, on the mountain behind my parents house that I didn't own.....my dad found it and made me cave it in. Then in my 20's, I was single and what better to do then wield a shovel and wheel barrow? It was deep, full concrete entrance, hand dug, lots of fun....husband made me fill it in a few years later. Now I am thinking of digging again......I do think there is a possibility this country could see hard times before the end of the end times comes. Thus, prep of wild foods is a favorite for me....free, available. Wild sochan plants growing on my creek bank....lambs quarters are delicious in shakes, when my boy doesn't chop them down....and I can't walk without finding many good things to eat....at least in summer.

My prepping started with natural disaster scenarios that I may experience in the area where I live. Everything from flooding as I live near a major river, to wild fires, and snow and ice storms. I am prepared for bugging out, but also if I must I am prepared for bugging in as well. It wasn't until the last couple years when I started thinking of other senarios, such as economic calapse, EMP, terror attack and mass chaos, just to name a few.

In a nutshell...
The only thing I haven't prep for is the end of the world other than my soul with that said, am I ready NO, are any of my preps a guarantee towards any catastrophe survivability NO, have I prioritized prepping for any one event over the others NO.

My geography and nationality play a great deal in influencing how I prep, I certainly dont focus on one issue cos I know it will be something else that takes me out.
But being a Brit living on Northern England in a diverse, multi cultural, grossly overcrowded, bankrupt country I focus on ;
1 Weather events such as severe droughts, winter storms, heat waves, power cuts, water shortages, water quality issues, exploding Icelandic volcanoes, Norweigan tsunamis
2 Terrorism ( Islamic, Irish republican, Militant Socialist)
3 Economic collapse and associated collapse of social infrastructure, mass unemployed, civil unrest
4 Ethnic civil unrest, rioting, looting, violent street gangs
5 Disease outbreaks etc
6 And of course wondering which country will be next on the Americans list of bad guys :) I dont think the US has attacked Fiji, Iceland or New Zealand yet but I'm sure they will eventually :)

have I prioritized prepping for any one event over the others NO.

good point there.only time i'll put any type of event first..is if i see something that i like, and have money for it at the time.even then,i wonder if there's more then one use for it or not.

trying to prep for what ever life throws at me,do know there's a huge chance that I fail miserably in some, more luck in others.
can't fight my big neighbor alone, will loose that one, terrorism is kinda high on my list.

Civil unrest / rioting has always been one of the main prepping reasons for me. You can't get sucked into believing that rioting won't happen where you are - particularly now with the police killings in Baton Rouge. It can happen ANYWHERE! Your prepper supplies should always include anything you need for hunkering down short term if civil disobedience unfortunately hits your town.

I too am not prepping for any single event. I am just trying to ensure that my family can feed themselves and live in some form of comfort and security no matter what life throws at us.

That sums it up pretty well. I mean who would have guessed we'd be seeing the opening salvos of a possible race war, in 2016? It's crazy. You just never know what to expect.

No matter what the root calamity is, the inevitable outcome is basically 3 things:

1) The power grid will go down.
2) The food distribution system will cease.
3) Law and order break down and go out the window.

These 3 outcomes will happen no matter what the root cause is...and it's these OUTCOMES, not the catalyst, that are important to prep for. We'll need food and water, security, and ways to circumvent or maintain some modern conveniences we're used to.

So, we strive to be more self-reliant, and have SOMETHING in place to counteract all of this.

I'm in the same boat although with everything that has been going on of late, I'm gonna have to say that things like 'civil unrest' and 'anarchy' are now at the top of my list. And I'm not talking about a rally here or there but something major. Could be 10 years, could be 20, could be never but something could also happen next week. Scary stuff, that.

I started prepping for civil unrest. However, we moved into a new home a couple months ago and have found that our power goes out on a fairly consistent basis. For the last 2 years we've had some pretty bad ice storms in the winter so I'm thinking that our power will be out quite a bit this winter. So now we're prepping for loss of power and the inability to get to the grocery store. But we're still thinking about civil unrest when we purchase things. I've started looking at a lot of solar powered things like security lights and lanterns for inside, but with snowy days those might not work as well as I had originally hoped. But that's where we're at.

We've also started considering bug out locations but nothing we've come up with is within 2 hours of our home so we're still working on that.

My main concern is my family. I'm the wife, and my husband is concerned with my safety, and we both discuss our son's safety.

Our niece goes to college in Knoxville and tells us how much unrest is on campus due to various things that offend the students. We live about an hour outside of Knoxville so we're aware that any major uprising there could easily spill into where we are, so we keep that in mind.

have yall sat down with the niece, and talked with her, about a bug out plan to where yall live? 3 diff situations come to mind, when it comes to that..1st,she hunkers down till you and/or who gets there to get her..2nd she meets up with who ever,at a agreed on location.in which a certain word or phrase is used to tell where to meet up at.3rd is she heads straight to where yall live.but only if heads out soon enough..

We haven't talked with her about it. She's new to politics and what's really going on in the world so I think if she felt she was in danger she'd head to our house first chance.

Propane and generator is likely going to be your best bet. Both in reliability and in cost.
If you're not trying to power appliances in the outages, then a small gas generator could be your other option as well.

I'm more afraid about earthquakes, especially after what happened in italy not so long ago, and especially because my mother was there. I think I'll start to prep. for these situations and I'm sure my mom have to do the same thing tho.. Every year the same damn thing, earthquakes...

Prepping for EQs is no different than prepping for anything else, water and food being the two major investments for any prepping situation, don't get tied down on one scenario, that's a fatal flaw with a good number of preppers today ;)

Good advice, thank you! Have I seemed dramatic with this message? I didn't want to, sorry :)

No reason to to be sorry :) generally when I comment on a post it's not always directed to just the post but to a larger audience as a whole since an untold number of folks may be reading the post. I generally keep my post short and to the point that may come across a little raw. The Wife says I can be a turd (my chosen word, wife's a little more colorful) sometimes :) anyway Welcome to DDPF!
