I reserved a room at a Red Lion.
Guaranteed late arrival so my room was paid for whether I showed up or not.
I got the CT scanner repaired and went to the hotel around 3 AM.
They had gave my room away and they had no other rooms available so they put me in a meeting room with a roll away bed and no bathroom.
The night manager apparently didn't understand guaranteed meant the room was not available for anyone else.
I was exhausted so I stayed.
The next morning I had a complete insane meltdown in the lobby.
The manager apologized and said he wouldn't charge me for the room.
No kidding A-hole.
I got to sleep in a meeting room and the company I worked for didn't have to pay for it.

here is something to worry about in hotels

from what I hear they are very hard to get rid of once you bring them home
My buddies friend got infested with bed bugs. When he who was infested visited my buddy, the bed bugs found their way to my buddies place. Bummer. Bed bugs one leap away!

But my buddy found some stuff and a regime to wipe them out! Excellent!

So my tenant called me sometime ( many months) latter and asked me about bed bugs. The place had never seen bed bugs previously so I figured out he picked them up somewhere. I put gim in contact with my buddy and the bed bugs were dealt with. Thank God!

Bed bugs. Never seen one don't want to.

If you know what he did, I think it would be a good thread to have here. I'm not traveling much these days, but I do want to drive to Nebraska to look at some land, and where I'm going would involve an overnight stay, so I might have a chance of picking some up.

Our secretary at work in Florida got bed bugs from a motel in Daytona. She had to remove all her carpet and furniture in her house and repeatedly spray for them . They must be really hard to get rid of
I always check matresses in motels and wash everything we take

I've heard that it is almost impossible to get rid of them. I know someone who lives in an apartment building. Someone else in the building brought some in and the whole building was infested.

Yikes, bed bugs can be quite the nightmare, and it's unfortunate to hear about your buddy's ordeal.
It's a relief that he managed to find a way to deal with them successfully! Having a solution on hand is crucial when these critters decide to pay a visit.

Also, speaking of hotels, have you ever stayed at any historical hotels? They often have fascinating stories to tell. Though, I'm guessing they're not bed bug stories, fortunately!

What your secretary did was a little extreme. You wouldn't have to remove anything. Bed bugs are not really hard to get rid of, but it should be done professionally. It is not something I would want to tackle on my own. A professional company will probably use a heat method. They will seal off the house and raise the temperature to kill the bugs. The heat will also kill all of the larvae. These disgusting little beasts lay eggs. Putting any contaminated items through a hot dryer cycle will also kill them, and they don't usually come back. You can use chemicals, usually a spray, but they only work about 80% of the time.

Disgusting, I know, but bed bugs are essentially ticks. You can find about a million You Tube videos if you want to try it on your own.

So to preface: there was absolutely nothing wrong with the hotel. I slept like a rock, but. . .
Years ago when traveling with my now ex, we stayed at a motel 6 in Redding, CA on our way down to central CA. There was evidently a bunch of cops ending in a shooting in the lot next to the motel. I did recall some flashing lights in the morning but never heard a thing. Guess I was pretty road weary.

I ask someone was there a cheap hotel about eighty from the city nearest to my family farm. When I got there the desk said they charge by the hour, still cheap! But something was off, so I went to another hotel. I told so one at work about a weird hotel, they laugh until they were blue in the face. Then the guy said, it was a place for working girls to take men, THAT WHY they charge by the hour!
I was from the county & never heard of this, I was flooded & never knew how shielded I was, until then. 😔

I learned about hourly rates when I was on shore leave in the Med. Say no more. Say no more.

...Worst hotel.... For me it was a busy, up scale, business conference type place in the ritzy part of Vancouver ...spit... We were there for a ..conference.. and stayed 1 extra night more than the company paid for as we took care of all the computer equipment.. I was told I would only pay the going rate of the bulk room price the company paid for everyone that stayed there.. It turned out they charged me over $400 dollars... I had no choice but to pay it.. It took the company several months to get the hotel to give me a refund back down to the conference price...

Besides the Starbucks in the lobby made ...the lousiest coffee... I EVER had... :barf:
Every day I walked 4 blocks to the nearest Tim Horton coffee shop.. Up hill both ways, in the snow or rain... 😊 ☕
Often I went to the fisherman's cafe on the wharf by the cannery... MOST wonderful... 🥴
