Nice! I have used primitive traps exclusively thus far but I really like the idea of cages traps. I would imagine they are far superior to the ones I've been using. Snares I used 550 cord or the innards of 550 and I've made some dead falls and figure 4 traps. I've only been successful with a dead falls and on squirrel. I don't know how true it is, but there are folks who claim to take deer with spring loaded snares and regular snares. I suppose it's worth a try, but I'd d**n sure want to be there in case it didn't drop right away so I could shoot it.Brent S, are you happy with the cage traps you've been using? They look sturdy enough to hold up over time, but you can't always go off of looks alone.

BTW, this poll has NOT gotten the results I would have expected.
Like Jim, I got a pair of them, medium and small, at tractor supply. They had a bunch of stuff on sale on their grand opening, and I think they were 20.00 for the pair. So far I've caught my neighbors cats repeatedly. There not too smart apparently, or are just plain hungry. I baited for a squirrel but he was too sharp, and a pellet gun finally got him. I usually won't hunt anything until they start eating from the fruit trees or garden, or are a nuisance in some way. What is a dead fall, is that a hole that's camouflodged? I'm in ga. and I've heard they have really tough hunting laws, with no snares for game.

i bought a a pair of cage traps 1st part of last summer at tractor supply..mainly for the raccoons in my area.but i've only caught opossums and 1 armadillo with them so far.i got lucky some how with the armadillo..
So you got lucky with the armadillo?!? Just don't let your wife find out!

Yeah, I have a sick mind.

Well, Saturday I bought a SilverFire Survivor Rocket Stove. I hope to get it in a few days. I researched them and talked to several people and this seemed like the best fit for my needs. I want to use it as an alternative cooking method. I have propane in my house to cook with and I have a Volcano Stove that I bought a year or so ago. But I have to say that I am really excited about this Rocket Stove. I like that they run on twigs. When a storm blows through there will be plenty of branches laying around to run it.

The SilverFire seems like the most efficient model out there.

use cinder blocks to GUIDE the armidillos to the trap ( poor eyesite )............. at Tractor Supply yesterday , buy a large trap get a small trap free............... coon-dog , flashlight , 6 pack , girlfriend and a .22 lr ( fun date night ) just have to find the right girl.
You're a romantic devil aren't ya!;)

Fred G. salvaging old lumber / chain link / cinder blocks etc. is a good way to prep on the cheap.........................My wife puts the seat back so no one can see her if I pull over for trash salvage. funny stuff. hey just last week i salvaged 75 / 100 foot of chain link and shored up a field wire fence that some deer tore up. You should have seen me wrestle that fence roll into the back of the truck... there was nothing quiet about it.
I can usually buy what I want, but when I can salvage something it is way better, for my wallet and the environment! I miss being a general contractor, used to get loads of left overs for free.

Redneck country girl vs prissy city girl ...............While I was at the prom with ms. **** don't stink , homecoming queen runner-up ( $150.00 date including corsage ), my part-time country girlfriend was at the creek-side bonfire with some dude ($10.00 date including 6-pack) no doubt in my mind what guy had the most fun........... You remember 1981 ? Romance vs reality.

I can always buy what I need , usually buy what I want (within reason) but salvaging is almost as fun as bartering. I have been to the U-Pull-It auto parts plenty of times also (old Fords )................ I like a good estate auction or garage sale too ! Cheap entertainment . Maybe should start a new thread ( Pics of salvaged items).

I was just messin with Jim, I'd take a country girl over any city chick any day! I care about simple things in life and find joy in making things with my own two hands. I've never cared about showing off or material things, and most city girls live for that. And yes I remember 1981, graduated that year!

I think that's a great idea for a thread, salvaged and recycled/repurposed!

And yes I remember 1981, graduated that year!.........................................................................yea, me too . $150.00 and I looked like an idiot in that tux. Gave a prom pic to that country girl , she slapped me on the back so hard I swallowed my gum. Never saw a girl laugh so much.

Hey, I'm just glad I'm not the oldest person on this forum! I was going to say that I had horrible hair styles back then, but now I just wish I had some of it back! By the way, nice Shepard on your avatar.

I got a fair amount of work done on the greenhouse this weekend. The second raised planter is in and I planted carrots and radishes in part of it. Hopefully I'll get the topsoil tilled into the center of it this week as I'm eager to plant soon. I also put in a window on the back wall for ventilation. I'm thinking it may be a lot cheaper to just go to the farmers market right about now! Lol. I enjoy working on projects luckily.

While I'm not as advanced along as most of you I've been concentrating lately on stockpiling ammo. Hope to be beyond 20k rounds in a couple of months. Putting an order in this week for a couple more assault weapons and also putting in an order on 4 silencers.

We all specialize in something. I want to get some kind of long range rifle sometime this year. Will probably get an AR but have heard good things about the AK also. The problem is all of these toys cost more than I have! Oh well, a little at a time. This is where having a group of people would pay off. With each having their own specialty, but working together to benefit the group. I have a few weapons now, but you sound like security is your specialty, what's your take on the two rifles I mentioned?

Every situation is different. I'm
Preparing for the possibility of close range fighting. I have sniper rifles that I can accurately shoot up to 500 meters but my current plans are to buy close range assault weapons for easier maneuverability in tight spaces. I already own several assault weapons but want to purchase several more in the event that I ever need to defend my compound I can have multiples per shooter or provide for multiple shooters to have one along with ammo.
I would choose either the ar or Ak can't go wrong in either case. Once you choose then start amassing as much ammo for them as possible.

The problem is all of these toys cost more than I have! ......................C'mon, really, a sniper rifle !..............What you WANT vs what you NEED................ nice work on the greenhouse dude , looks to me that you are buying and focusing on the most important preps................extra window is good , the more cross ventilation the better. It appears you may have enough room to build an (hydro)aquaponic fish box , box some 2x12s 3 foot high , pond liner and a pump and put some tilapia in it. Alot of fertilizer in that poopy fish water for your vegetables. You-tube makes it look easy enough.

I talked with one guy that made several aquaponic gardens. He said that he could build one (the garden part of it would be 4x8) that would feed an entire family of 4 for a year. I am dying to try one. My best friend has done Hydroponics strawberries for a couple of years. He really enjoys doing it.

My veterinarians husband is putting together a hydroponics set up right now. He went to a week class in Tennessee for a week or so. As soon as he gets it set up I'll try to take some Picts. to post. I've thought about it but have two creeks on the property, with a couple ponds, so I think I'm going to raise catfish and brim in one of the ponds. Well see how excited I get after seeing his set up though! And yeah, the sniper rifle is definitely a want, guess I still have a little boy left in me!

Creeks and ponds..........................................Well , now I understand the toilet paper prep !..............................

Why not a snipe rifle??? When you need food it would be the ideal device to hunt any animal and not even to talk about protection! Suggestion is to have an automatic with a suppresser on it though.

I have thought about hydroponics recently (I hate having to do all that weedin) too. A friend of ours mentioned it to us last year when I started planting. I love the idea of not having to ad fertilizer since it is already provided with the fish

I'm still working on food production, storage, energy supplimentation, and a bunch of other issues, all at once. I do have some firearms allready, and although I would like an AR, it just isn't near the top of my list right now. Too bad I wasn't the one that hit that lottery jackpot this morning!

This week I put my money into field wire , t-posts , and a new electric fence charger / etc. by neccessity.........( dang near the price of an Windham AR )................... How could shooting an AR be more fun than driving t-posts ?

Yeah,I'm still making my tax return/want list and 1 more roll and t posts are definitely on it. All I can say is driving in those beats the heck out of digging in 4x4's. I have areas I wanted privacy and they take a lot longer to finish. My property is two and a half acres, but it's a pie slice shape that's long and skinney. It also had more poision ivy than anyplace I've ever been! Fencing this has been about a three year ordeal! I think two more rolls will finish it up. Hope you wear ear plugs when setting those posts, I'm close to deaf now and let me tell you, it sucks!
