I thought I was just unlucky last week when I went to stock up on my brand of coffee, but have since been to four places that sell it, and they only have the wee 200g jars. I hope to go across the border next week and will check there, but it's very odd. I've seen limited amount of tea also, but not for any extended time.
Regarding the post on food theft; when I was paying for the beef earlier I noticed they scanned it, then carried it off to another section to wave it in front of a new security pad. I asked her why the beef, and she said they do it now with meat because theft. We live in a pretty good rural county, so I was surprised. Also wondering at the in ingenuity of people who can get out with something the size of a Labrador puppy under their arm!
A small store owner down south was on the radio last week, saying he loses 100euro to theft each month; mainly chicken filet rolls! People go to the deli counter, then wander out without going to the checkout.

Coffee has been in short supply for over six years, that why the price does not go up then down like gas.
Coffee has not been in a shortage, that slowed supply.
But 100% Colombian coffee is grown in the Coffee Triangle, when that land is full, there will be no more mountains.
The taste come from the Andes soil, the beans (not a real bean) will taste different grown in any other soil.
Many bean from other countries taste like dirt & have to be mix/blended to hide the taste.

Same land problem with Kona:

HAWAII KONA COFFEEBEANS

Cultivated on the volcanic slopes of the Big Island in Hawaii, Kona coffee often sells for more than $30 per pound. The high cost leads many Kona coffee farmers to offer their beans as a Kona coffee blend with lower price beans mixed in.
Make sure you get 100% Kona coffee if you want to sample the true origin flavors of Hawaii Kona Coffee. The Kona coffee growing region is located on the lower western slopes of Hualalai and Mauna Loa volcanos above Kona town.
Hawaiian Maui also has a reputation for high quality, and at a slightly more affordable cost than the Kona

I haven't seen coffee unavailable, but the price is higher
Agree, Price higher & weight is less, some coffee is 11.5 Oz instead of 16 Oz.
Coffee drinkers are raising faster than coffee plantation can grow new trees, so the shortage is slow moving & may not affect us.
But the price will keep going up until usage goes down, because of more product or less people drinking coffee.

I buy bottled root beer at a grocery store. They wanted like $5.99 for 6 bottles and it was always in stock. Then it went on sale for $4.49 for 6 bottles and they haven't had a single bottle available since the day it went on sale. So I am not sure if the supply is low or if this is some kind of bizarre sales tactic, but I like my ROOT BEER! The clerk claims they just can't get it in, along with numerous other types of soda, tea, flavored water, etc. If this continues I will need to learn to make root beer so I can continue to supply myself with that beverage after the collapse.

Might ask for a rain check if they are going to be putting things on sale that they can't provide.

I have a truck load of sassafras growing near the Blueberries in the orchard.

@OldSchool do you mean here or in general?!! ;) :D

Update on the coffee, drove to another town and found the large jars there.
Coincidentally, there was an article on yesterday about the coffee bean farmers and prices going up.
In general…. Folks here are (overall) sensible enough to prep and take care of themselves, or at least strive to be there. That says something their character and intelligence level.

About the coffee: You got me wondering if it would be feasible and profitable to set up green house to produce coffee beans. 🤔

You need to bring in a couple yards of dirt from Colombia or Hawaii.

I found this on how to make your own root beer at home, I have no idea if its any good or not.

A lousy 2 liter is 3$! The cheap stuff is swill. I see no real shortages, but I'm all about the basics, meat, potatoes, bread.

My granny told me about depression-era coffee. It was roasted black corn and a pinch of lime or boiled with eggshells. Sounds foul, I'll be doing herb tea.

I drag it outside after threat of frost is past. Lives in the heated greenhouse over winter. Freezing temps will kill the plant. At least it did kill my first one.

Lovely. My coffee plant died in the greenhouse this winter. Lemon and avocados made it though

This is more for the laugh this morning. I can't share the whole article because I don't have an account. Apparently Cadburys choc fingers re missing form French shelves causing some to pay extortionate amounts. We can buy them here for 2quid. I should fill the car and drive over!

Cadbury chocolate fingers sell for €55 a packet as shortage bites

French consumers are angry after the British chocolate biscuits vanish from supermarket shelves

The Princess ordered from fast growing trees.

Like most of the trees we have she decides what we need and next thing I know a tree or more show up. I just have to keep them alive.;)

Ben
I just looked at that, would love to order one of their cold hardy tea plants but I think I will wait until spring
I am keeping alive 2 citrus trees in pots ( myer lemon and some sort of tangerine) but so far they have not produced a single fruit, just leaves and flowers and supposed to be self pollinating

wait, should this be in the gardening thread?
