So there I am, a couple of weeks back, making myself a corned beef hash sandwich, I open the can and there is like an inch of this crap that looks like petroleum jelly or nasty crisco. I shrugged it off thinking it was an end-of-the-run kind of screw-up, I ate it and went on with life, yesterday I bought another can at a completely different store, and lo and behold, there was even more of this GUNK in my meat! Any more of this crap and I'm going to Mary's Kitchen or Libby's, I'll bet if I fried this stuff for an egg it would render down to half lard! this is disgusting and expensive! You're losing a 40 year customer Hormel, get your junk tight!
 
I never eat canned meats because of memories of stuff like this. I remember it from Vienna Sausages as a kid. A nasty gelatinous glob of who-knows-what. Definitely not appetizing. Nauseating actually. I though most all canned meats were like this (I haven't eaten any for half a century, so I don't know from personal experience). I do eat chili on occasion and other canned things with meat as one of the ingredients, but not plain meat - like canned beef or canned chicken or single meat things like that. Except tuna, which seems to be free of that nasty slime in my experience.
 
Hey, Magus, Mary's Kitchen makes decent hash, FWIW. I made the mistake of buying two cans of Wendy's Chili which I saw at Walmart (no price listed), but after I got home and checked the receipt, each can of Wendy's Chili cost $4.42, pffffft. I might just take 'em back, since there was no price listed on the shelf... or I might just "eat the cost" and never buy the stuff again. It BETTER be good at $4.42 per 15-oz. can, lol. 😒

Most companies come up with fillers to extend their product. There is a video out of meat packing plants with injectors that put water into chicken. Probably every meat has something to extend the product.
Yeah, it's not new.
I remember as a teen on a school field trip to a packing plant, watching guys with long needles injecting salt water into hams.
They said it was a 'preservative' but they weighed them to tell when they were done. Read the label closely on any ham you buy and you will see it.
I also remember every can of SPAM having a layer of 'jelly' on top of it when you opened it. :(

This is actually normal below 60 degrees, if you warm the can it turns back into chicken broth, actually kind of tasty. I dip my crackers in it.

Dear god bro, if you're allergic to red beans like I am, you'll never get off the toilet! 0_0 For me, Wolf or nothing, almost gluten-free

I'm allergic to SPAM and treet, Something in the preservatives. I can't eat the stuff unless it's cooked almost to death on a grill.
