yes, we had a power shortage in the 70s something to do with OPEC I think, some areas were without power for a couple of hours then it was another area's turn, I managed to dodge it, when my home area was cut off I was at work in another area, when my work area was cut off I was at home!!!
but I can still imagine the masses complaining.
 
we haven't had them since the 70s but we have come close to demand outstripping supply for the last 3 years running, too many people, always managed to just avoid it and I do mean JUST, that was the reason for the 3 new power stations but it looks like only 1 is going to be built now, some of the old coal and diesel power plants are due to be shut down in 2020 due to pollution laws so they better get their act together soon or the lights WILL go off.
