Flemming v. Nestor, 363 U.S. 603 (1960)

Ephram Nestor sued the government for cutting off his Social Security payments after he was deported for being a member of the Communist Party. The Supreme Court ruled that there is no contractual right to receive Social Security payments. The interest of a beneficiary of Social Security is protected only by the Due Process Clause.

And when Congress changes who can get paid and how much, that IS Due Process!

Flemming v. Nestor, 363 U.S. 603 (1960)
The Supreme Court said he is right.
Look it up
now I have looked at this,,,,,,read it yourself the reason his benifits were taken away had nothing to do with ending the program

In this 1960 Supreme Court decision Nestor's denial of benefits was upheld even though he had contributed to the program for 19 years and was already receiving benefits. Under a 1954 law, Social Security benefits were denied to persons deported for, among other things, having been a member of the Communist party. Accordingly, Mr. Nestor's benefits were terminated. He appealed the termination arguing, among other claims, that promised Social Security benefits were a contract and that Congress could not renege on that contract. In its ruling, the Court rejected this argument and established the principle that entitlement to Social Security benefits is not contractual right.

S.S. is a tax, its not an entiltlment, its not a retirement account, its not a gaurrenteed benefit. Its a scam! Used as a political football, regulated by congress. Congress can do whatever they want with a tax.

You can leave the thread when you don't,like the truth, its still the truth. Your probably right about all hell breaking loose if Congress stops paying people there S.S. promisary return.

I've always thought that SS should be voluntary. A working person should have the option whether to put their money in to the government SS scheme, or invest it in an approved personal 401k or IRA account. I'm pretty sure that I can (and have) invest MY money better than the government can.

Uh, it is voluntary. There are U.S. citizens that do not have a social security number, nor do they participate in it.

The government makes it very inconvenient and a pain in the ass to not get one. There is no law that forces anyone to have a S.S. number.

That really sucks! I hope it wasn’t too hard to get it straightened out for you.
it was shortly after hunny turned 65 that he received a letter in the mail from the Social Security office. It was questioning where the payment was being sent. Ex brother in law only got a few months worth but had they not sent a letter, hunny wouldn't have known about it.
