cant be in the South unless you have a certain accent, elevate bbq to a new level, make vats of sweet tea and can say Darlin and Well Bless Yer Heart with the right emphasis.

oklahome is acceptable. the rest--yall need to form your own union and seced with the rest of us.

I just read an article the other day about how the southern drawl is the direct result of the original US settlers slowly losing their British accents which turned into the slower sound of the South. The same way the French settlers accents slowly but surely turned in the Cajun accent.

I would not include AZ, NM, CO, KS, MO, IL, IN, OH, DE or MS in my definition of the "South".

I would probably include Texas and at least upper Florida.
What did Mississippi do wrong to get on your list? :dunno:
Have you ever been there?
...They are about as 'southern' as it gets.
Or did you miss type "MD"?

East Tennessee has it's own "Southern Drawl". It's a combination of Southern, Scottish, and Irish. Heavy on the Scots and Irish.
I'd be inclined to include OK in the South

yall wait till south pole decides its really the north pole and visa versa....in this world of mixed up crap anything is possible.....woke poles and directions...coming to a compass near you !

I meant MO. As in Missouri. Dyslexia can be a bitch.

I would consider Missouri part of the North now, but it was very much divided during the Civil War, and it was very much a Slave state. I can see where some people would consider it part of the South.

I would agree with you on all of the others.

I was living in South Dakota, getting ready to go to college in Kansas City. I called to talk to someone and the switchboard operator answered with a very heavy Southern accent. I wasn't prepared for that. 50 years later and I still remember that. Missouri definitely has some Southern characteristics in places.

the south is where you don't need antifreeze tirechains snowplows and like that , someplace without actual seasons and way too hot and often humid,

Well there is this

but I would draw the line at the Tennessee, and North Carolina borders or at least Kentucky and central VA Cant let the Derby be called anything but a Southern festival.

I would consider this map very accurate. That is exactly where I consider the lines should be.

One of my favorite retirement stories: A guy from Minnesota who had worked for 3M his whole career was getting ready to retire. His friends asked him what he was going to do. He said "I am going to put the snow blower on top of the car and drive South until somebody says ' What is that thing?'"

Sorry Y'ALL, south is SOUTH OF THE RED RIVER!!😉
Oh never mind the river a mile or so south is the red deer river,

Since the influx of Yankees, anything south of about State Road 40 in Florida can no longer be considered part of The South.
SR 40 runs east-west from Daytona to the Gulf Coast.
Florida is the only state where the farther south you go, the more north you get.
We live as far north as you can get in Florida without being in Georgia.

A true indicator would be restaurants where grits are served and the tea is sweet.
And anyone who tells you that biscuits and gravy isn’t a meal obviously doesn’t belong here.

Hadn't been in Texas long and a waitress in a Cotton Patch restaurant said, y'all want gravy with that? in her finest Texas twang, later asked y'all want sweet tea?? Maybe it was the tea first, gravy later. LOL But, this was over in Palestine, Texas.
She seemed surprised we wanted neither.

"EVERYTHING" in all the other 49 States, is "SOUTH" for an ALASKAN....... :dancing:

ALASKA is so HUGE that it is the most northern state & the most western state & the most eastern state of all the American states. And more than two and half times bigger than (cute little) Texas.

Alaska has more OCEAN FRONTAGE then all of the contiguous (lower 48) states together,

The Mason-Dixon Line is a demarcation line that separates the borders of four US states: Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and West Virginia. The line was surveyed between 1763 and 1767 by Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon to settle a border dispute between the British colonies of Maryland and Pennsylvania/Delaware. The line runs north from the southwest corner of Delaware and along the southern border of Pennsylvania before turning south at Delaware.

How the Mason-Dixon Line Divided the North and the South

The Mason-Dixon Line has been an important part of American history, especially during the Civil War and the Missouri Compromise. In 1820, the Missouri Compromise banned slavery north of the Mason-Dixon Line, which helped determine the Union and Confederacy factions during the Civil War. The line also became an iconic boundary between Northern and Southern cultures, as large landowners in Maryland and Delaware were less dependent on slave labor than those in the Lower South and were unwilling to join the Confederacy.

People say that they live in "UP STATE" New York. Where is that....??? Up near Watertown, New York....???

Others have said if you are not in Albany, New York then you are "Upstate".

...Aaand that has absolutely NOTHING to do with 'The South'.

haha. I lived in Pennsylvania for a while, was a mile and half north (of course) from the Mason Dixon Line. Seemed more southern in Pennsylvania than it did where I came from in Maryland. Since Maryland was right up to that line, I never really considered Maryland a southern state, but a northern state. Virginia is definitely a southern state.

The most eastern? Ew globalist drivel.

The US is the center of the world 🤣 and as far as the Us is concerned it should be the point of refrence concerning what's most east in the US.

Alaska is big- and I think the folks up there have big heads to match 😛😁

Alaska is the eastern most state.. pfft. Facebook level fun fact. Yall have been hangin' out with Canada too much haha

The problem is nobody who actually lives in the south considers Delaware or Maryland and Washington DC as part the south... infact its generally considered enemy territory.
