Others have said if you are not in Albany, New York then you are "Upstate".
The Alaskan Island chain crosses the international date line that defines the west from the east....

There a line about a 15 minute walk north of my place that separates people that say "younz" from those that say "yall".This is what we South Carolina RedNecks use.

The Mason-Dixon Line is a demarcation line that separates the borders of four US states: Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and West Virginia. The line was surveyed between 1763 and 1767 by Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon to settle a border dispute between the British colonies of Maryland and Pennsylvania/Delaware. The line runs north from the southwest corner of Delaware and along the southern border of Pennsylvania before turning south at Delaware.

How the Mason-Dixon Line Divided the North and the South

The Mason-Dixon Line has been an important part of American history, especially during the Civil War and the Missouri Compromise. In 1820, the Missouri Compromise banned slavery north of the Mason-Dixon Line, which helped determine the Union and Confederacy factions during the Civil War. The line also became an iconic boundary between Northern and Southern cultures, as large landowners in Maryland and Delaware were less dependent on slave labor than those in the Lower South and were unwilling to join the Confederacy.

I agree. Oklahoma and Texas is very different, culturally, from Florida and Georgia.theres the south and then theres the south east
Well, until after I graduated from high school Robert E Lee’s birthday and Confederate Memorial Day were Florida state holidays.Okay, quiet down & let someone else brag on their state..
And Oklahoma and Texas are way different from each other on OU Weekend!!I agree. Oklahoma and Texas is very different, culturally, from Florida and Georgia.
There is a part of The South called the Bible Belt.
And the general area where we live has been described as the buckle on the Bible Belt.
When churches outnumber bars and liquor stores 50 to 1 I know we live in the right place.
The Battle of Glorieta Pass in New Mexico was in the movie The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. I had never heard of the "western front" of the war before I saw that movie.Well, Arizona was a Confederate territory during the War. And the westernmost "battle" of the War of Northern Agression was the "Battle of Picacho Peak," near Tucson. And the war continues to this day between rural and urban, and we (rural) are losing... But we don't say, "y'all" or "howdy."
OK is an honorary Southern state, LOLView attachment 159739

I know people in the Florida Panhandle that would take issue with that. You are talking about people that are on the same latitude as Mobile and Baton Rouge with just an arbitrary state line separating them from Alabama and Georgia.Texas and Florida are not southern states
States above s Carolina are Apalation (sp?) , hill people they are not Southern different customs.
