Draft age is 18-25, so pretty much everyone. But the service age limit varies by branch and circumstance, from 28 in the USMC to 42 in the USAF.

However if WWIII breaks out the rules will all change, especially since many 18-25 year olds are not in the physical or mental shape necessary to fight. Although they should be drafted and sent to fight anyway.

I don't know. I believe Germany just pass some type of pre-draft law. I think American males have to "register" when they turn 18 y/o.

All 18 yr old males have to send in their paperwork, always have. Even our son who is in his 30's did, and our grandson who is 19 had to, too, so that's been going on awhile. But I did read recently that they're automatically registered now, everybody is in a database already. Even the girls.

I don't know what age the oldest troops are, but there are at least some in their early sixties.

Yes, when people turned 18, if they wanted to get a job, they had to get a SS number.
When they did, they were registered for the draft.
... And they damsure don't want to recruit us old fogeys!

I really can't imagine anyone under 30 being capable of fighting- that applies to any country. Most people that are legally able to drive for instance, I wouldn't leave in charge of a puppy, never mind a weapon.

My understanding is that's more due to a population deficit. Ukraine has like 37m and Russia has 143m. Russias troops especially conscripts average much younger than Ukraines.

The US has a population of ≈ 350m, at the time of ww2 our population was less than Russia has currently and we had plenty of young people to sacrifice back then.

So the US has no shortages of young men to grind up for stupid policies, other powers like China even less so.

There is also a progressive element in this country which wishes to see women register for the draft.

If you retire from USA military you can be called back into service until you die of old age.

I'm 52, and I'm physically ineligible to serve. If I wasn't, I probably would've joined the Air Force out of high school. It's somewhat of a family tradition.

My daughter is 18. I tried to encourage her to join the Guard to get aid for college. We looked into it and they said since she has a diagnosis for anxiety and has undergone counseling and had a prescription for it at one time, she's not eligible to volunteer for the guard. I'm not sure if that would still apply to a draft. I can say with complete confidence that she is not cut out for the military. She's not great at handling high stress situations like one might encounter there...

Stop worrying about a draft. If WW3 starts in earnest, it's not going to matter how many people are in the service. The war will last less than a day.

There were two years when men didn't have to register for the draft. I never registered yet served 6 years as a volunteer.

So basically the requirement to register was suspended in March of 1975 but wasn't reinstated in 1980… a five year gap when registration wasn’t required. But in 1980 the requirement applied to anyone born Jan 01 of 1960 or later. This left an 21 month gap with no requirement to register. Men born between March 29, 1957 and December 31, 1959.

I remember joking with guys I served with… Not only did I not have to register for the draft but the drinking age in my state was raised to 21… after I was 21. “Drinking age for military was a big deal in the early 80’s.” (my view was and still is... if you're old enough to get drafted then shot in some forgotten corner of the world, you're old enough to order a beer in any bar in this country)

agreed my sons are early to late 30s I am mid 50s and can still hold my own. But , my family will Fight if pushed but Will not fight the District of Corruptions Forever wars for profit ever again.

There would be some benefits for that. But I'm kind of the opinion that the government shouldn't have the authority to require everyone to serve unless there is an actual war. We have enough government in our lives, we don't need them requiring our young people to serve too...

Russia does some basic stuff in regular schools .
