It's March, should be a wet month, not a wildfire month! Most of Texas and Oklahoma are terribly DRY. Oklahoma has so many fires happening right now. Texas has it's share too! Fire danger in many states right now: Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, and Missouri! There's a nearly 10,000 acre fire in the hill country of Texas burning now near Fredericksburg!

As that wind storm was raging , I stepped out my door to see a wildfire near my son's cabin . After evaluating the situation , called 911 , grabbed my rake and began fighting fire . Somewhere around 5 water trucks were soon on the scene . It seems my son had thrown a cigarette out of his cabin window , starting the blaze . No significant damage occurred and it was contained all on my property .

This part of the northern forest is also especially dry.. Many areas got a dusting of snow or sprinkle of rain that always helps, but I don't expect enough to reduce the dangerous level much.. Wind is a BIG factor in the danger levels..

According to this it's looking like you have something like 76 fires happening in Texas right now. This website is good for checking in and locating at a quick glance for all North American fires of note:

The southeast finally started getting big rains about 2-3 weeks ago. For most of Feb. we were having wild fires all over the south. South Carolina was the last one to have major issues.

Hope y'all get some rain soon!

Interesting map Binky..
I lived in the north when the fires went through from near Quesnel, Williams Lake, Lac La Hache, down near 70 Mile House as I recall the area.. BAD, BAD country to try to fight fire.. I don't remember how many kilometers of hydro lines burned and how much highway burned down to black gravel.. It took a couple years or more to fix it all..
