Story From RECOIL Magazine ( Online )
Without warning the Brownells YouTube channel was terminated on Saturday, June 9th. Attempting to visit the channel URL results in a message that reads “This account has been terminated for violating YouTube’s Community Guidelines.”
Over the last several months YouTube has implemented new community guidelines that adversely affects firearm content hosted on the video streaming site. Since the new guidelines took effect, channels belonging to Spike’s Tactical, Bloke On The Range, as well as several airgun channels have been deleted. Some have been reinstated after contesting YouTube’s decision while others, like James Yeager’s channel, remain deleted forcing users to start over.
If you want to get up to speed on the changing YouTube landscape, we covered it in Issue 37 with an article titled “YouTube’s Gun Video Tyranny.”
We reached out to Brownells’ Director of Content and Communications Ryan Repp over the weekend for comment about the channel’s termination. Repp sent a quick statement via text message that read as follows:
We discovered Brownells’ YouTube channel had been terminated early Saturday morning, June 9. We received no warning and no reason for its termination.
We appreciate the outpouring of support we’ve received from channel subscribers and Brownells customers.
We do plan to appeal. Any help the gun community can provide is greatly appreciated.
Brownells also posted a quick message on their social media outlets informing their customer base of the deletion with instructions on how to best help the retailer fight YouTube’s decision.
