@Weedygarden had a great suggestion of picking a topic to discuss for next weeks meet up! I think this is a great idea and special thanks to her for the suggestion! So, in the next few days, please take a moment to comment what a good topic of conversation would be for next week!

A few quick questions:
How much does the Zoom app cost?
Do you have to pay a monthly/yearly fee to be a Zoom user? (They have to make money somehow).
Do you know how to make the 4-box or 8-box screens that show all the users at once (instead of page-flipping)?

If you are an attendee, it doesn't cost anything. If you are a host, you can get a free account but it limits you to the number of people that can attend and also the length of the meeting. I have a paid zoom account, I think it was $75 for the year, but you don't have to go that route.

Next week, I will set up the meetup to use the Brady Bunch boxes instead of focusing on the person who it talking.

Those are great answers!
I have never installed an app on my tablets because that is what causes the wheels to fall off .
But then again, I use them instead of the PC because I consider them "disposable".
If one turns evil, take it in the backyard, shoot it, and buy another one.
...I may install my first app and lose my virginity!:oops:gaah

I've never paid anything to use Zoom. Perhaps a host pays a fee.
How to make the screens showing all participants is done with menus on the page. I know the host can do things that other participants cannot.

I do pay a fee for the hosting package that I have. I used zoom quite a bit for running county board meetings and they would sometimes last 2 or 3 hours, and you are restricted to 45 minutes on the free hosting plans, so I needed to subscribe to the unlimited meetings plan. I use it for several trade groups I belong to as well, so it's money well spent for me.

Now the real question is, what are we going to talk about next week?

Some ideas for next weeks meeting:

1. Soil evaluation, testing, amendments and improvements, gardening for soil types.
2. Skills to know for the future and basic equipment to have when the world goes backwards. Could involve or include heating, fuel, energy, farming, gardening, cooking, communications, travel.
3. Ham radio equipment and using.
4. Butchering and processing animals. Equipment and supplies.
5. Energy when the grid goes down.

Another idea
6. OPSEC

I agree! That is why it has been on my mind since our Zoom meeting and follow up conversations!
Perhaps I need to expand upon my one word post.

Zoom is not secure.

If someone who attends the Zoom meetings is under surveillance by the authorities, then the Zoom meeting becomes interesting to those same authorities. If that someone is on a list, then you all get to be on that list.

A Zoom meeting = Bad OPSEC

And it's out there on YouTube!

I can tell you right now that I am most likely on some list and am being watched
I have been very vocal on social media about our constitutional rights for years
If their bots want to follow me around then so be it. I have committed no crimes and have a clean record. Refuse to be silenced by intimidation or the threat of being watched for telling the truth

A Zoom meeting = Bad OPSEC
If you're worried about OPSEC then attending a topic-based meeting (online or in person) is probably not your best move. You could try to be anonymous on an online meeting by disconnecting your camera/microphone, using a proxy, connecting via the TOR network, changing your persona, etc. But that kind of defeats the purpose of a weekly meet up. It would be like a meet up of total strangers if everyone succeeded in hiding their identity.

Nothing is "Secure", unless you never go anywhere, talk to anyone, order anything, use your cellphone, carry your cellphone, or go onto the internet.

Exactly. If you're concerned about opsec, you probably aren't on this forum. There's nothing wrong with discussion of the topic in the context of "what more could I be doing in the event X happened".

And if you're not on lists already, you're just not motivated.

Just a friendly reminder that we are having our second zoom meet up tonight, 7:30 central time. I'll post up the YT live link when it is available for those that want to watch on YT instead of zoom.

Judging from the chatter in this thread, OPSEC looks like a good topic for tonight's discussion!
I've got family coming over for dinner and I hope they can scram before showtime. I'll be on if I can!

Sorry to have missed it. My son, daughter in law and granddaughter were over for dinner and hung out a bit. The meeting was over by the time they took off.
