This is an interesting story of survival and rescue. This guy repeats the original two mens journey to live.Be sure and watch to the end...theres several interesting points and couple of very sad ones as well...what happens to one of two men and how aboriginals were treated while saving these mens lives.

@Sourdough you will love this story being a pilot and love of wild places and survival and testing ones self. The film maker pilot retraces their journey mostly.

In 1932, pilot Hans Bertram and mechanic Adolph Klausmann were rescued while attempting to circumnavigate the world in a Junkers W 33 seaplane. After departing Koepang, Dutch Timor, they endured a storm in the Timor Sea on 15 May and were forced to land in a remote coastal area of the Kimberley region in northern Western Australia. The stranded men spent almost six weeks severely deprived of food and water and were close to death when they were rescued by a group of local Aboriginal fishermen on 22 June.

In 1931 two men flew around the world in 8 days. It was the first fixed wing aircraft to circumnavigate the globe. Wiley Post was the pilot. The navigator was Harold Gatty who wrote the book below. It’s the best navigation book I’ve ever read. I still use things I learned from it.

The flight in the op was a sea plane, had a pilot, co-pilot, mechanic and a photographer. Can’t help but think they should have brought a navigator like harold gatty. 🤣 Their plans for survival should have been made before they left the ground.

(the first flying machine, a zeppelin, to circle the globe did so in 1929)
