I wonder why they don't use mules. Mules can live off less and because of their digestive system can eat things that would hurt a horse.OIt thats what I heard. Not sure?

Mules are sterile so they would have to keep horses and donkeys anyway as breeding stock. That would take more room and just as much forage to keep them so you might as well use them.

Not really. A couple good donks and mares would do just fine. But horses are good too just more upkeep ,you do know that the calvary used mules because they are so sure footed and more suitable to all kinds terrain and extream conditions.

Mules were also used in the mines because a horse would freak out and thats not a good idea in close places.
Now of course its all according to who you ask is it because the horse smarter or the mule.I knda lean towards the mule but the horse is a very beautiful creature plus intellagent.:dunno:

That would be the breeding stock. If your going to house and feed them you might as well work them.

Yes I know that and a sure footed animal is great in the mountains but most farms are fairly flat. Mules were also used for meat.

Ben, the "standard" battery is the failure point in this effort. A truck needs a different battery than a car and car makers are all about selling parts so there will never be a "standard" anything. We are at the point where we have batteries that will run a purpose built car for 10,000 miles. The latest Tesla cars will be using it. The new batteries will also charge very fast but they require high amperage chargers.
One battery that has been in the works for decades is the "air battery". As long as it has air circulation it will produce power. The problem is starting your car to move, at rest the battery does not work well. I have seen a publication that implies that the technology has progressed to the point where it is becoming a feasible alternative. I will wait for real world testing.
Air battery

Are you talking about the ones that use zinc?

Re: standard battery

Dewalt seems to have developed a nice standard battery that the competition has copied.

Ben

Ben,
There are several air battery types including Zinc, Aluminum and Lithium. Of those the lithium air battery has the highest specific energy but there is new (trade secret) technology that is entering the field now. The zinc air battery is probably the least expensive although the anode and cathode of the batteries need to be replaced. The Aluminum air battery is expensive and referbishment is also expensive because of the toxic chemicals need special disposal. The lithium air battery has the longest life in use but the lithium is still expensive and the oxides are likely a problem as toxic waste just like the aluminum but there are no aqueous chemicals used so you are dealing with only dry products.
I have no idea what the latest batteries are using as they use trade secret formulations that they are not ready to share yet. Time will tell.

I asked about the zinc version because I was involved with the early development.

Here is a pdf of the project summary.

Warning that paper is too technical and very boring but Hey! That is me all over.

Ben

Well it's not "too technical" but it is informing, especially in the needs of the monitoring software.
How is the electrolyte affected in this reaction?

As I recall, (long time ago,I just wrote the software to do what the developers wanted) the only maintenance required replacing the sacrificial zinc anode.

Check me if I am wrong.

The zinc oxide also has to be removed from the electrolyte.
It's amazing that this forum is like a lodestone that attracts former wizards.lightbulb

Shovels and strong people to get out and dig the ground, especially those video game addicts. If there is no gas, there will probably not be electricity. I have an electric Mantis, but that could sure take a lot of time tilling any area of any size.

Video game addicts ha ha.
I was visiting with my favorite cousin yesterday and we were trying to think of a bright side to a Biden win. I know there isn't one, but we decided maybe they won't burn the cities down now. Ha Ha. Didn't work, because there was rioting last night. My cousin thinks that all these young rioters should be out shoveling manure. With a shovel. They can start at our place. Ha Ha.

It looks like Colorado is a blue state now. Biden got the bid here, but HRC got it in 2016.
There was rioting in Denver last night. Eight people were arrested. I don't understand why, except maybe people have nothing else to do. I know an angry young man who lives not far from where the rioters met up, by Cheesman Park. I actually wondered if he was in the crowd. What were they rioting about? Probably anything and nothing. Explosives were thrown into a dumpster and a fire started in it. An explosion in a large metal bin like that makes loud noises.

Daughter said she heard that there is likely a civil war coming. I'm glad she is aware of that as a possibility, because it can help me get her to understand the need for preparing and storing food and other necessary supplies.

I know the trouble last night back in my old home city of Phoenix included demonstrations and some minor violence, but it was Trump supporters marching on the Maricopa County Elections building chanting about not stopping the voting. My son, who lives there, said there were some rocks and bottles thrown at the building, but that was about it.

What I thought odd was that the Trump campaign was suing to keep counting in Arizona and Nevada (where they were behind in the count), but suing to stop counting in Georgia and Pennsylvania (where they were ahead at the time).

Sadly many of these looting, killing ptotesters are children of conservative GOP. And basically they have to be to survive i nthis society. Plus they have been told by their caretakers ,schools and sports heros how evil, homophobic, racist, they are if they don't bow dowwn to their radical peers..
All 3 of our kids are very conservative, but heir kids our grandkids in their late 20s to mid 30s aren't,only a few are conserative. But like the rest of us they are continully apolgising for being previledged.
