I want to start by saying, I appreciate all the different opinions, etc. I will also admit to riding a roller coaster ride as to whether I will stay in place and fight for my rights, or whether I will bug out. One day I need to be very vocal, other days I can't say anything! Then I look for that balance, the fulcrum point so to say, that I am actively involved but yet able to exit when needed successfully. Okay, so I have no exit plan and I really am a sitting duck. I live 30 miles north of Atlanta and less than 2 miles from I-75...yes, I am worried. And, about a lot of things, natural and manmade. And, I have been here over 20 years. How, do you just walk away from that kind of lifetime investment? And, that puts me on a different mindset than say someone who rents an apartment. I actually know most of my neighbors. How do we achieve a workable balance? I am sick of extremes...and, unfortunately, you can take anything to an extreme! Evil takes over when good men sit at home and watch ball games or do anything other than participate in their family and local community. My personal opinion is big business cannot be allowed to take on an "identity"...no one is held accountable for their actions or choices in that framework. Until we crush most of these major corporations hold and stop giving them our dollar, we will loose, period. That would be an extremely painful experience for the American public...some of us are just beginning to wake up to just how spoiled we are as a whole. We are a welfare nation and as long as our government is looked at as an income stream that keeps us set up for demise. And, unfortunately, social security was the foothold that was needed to open that door. That was the beginning of the end of "freedom" as the Constitution described it. It took the responsibility of old age off the individual and the younger generations and put it on the government. That split the family dynamics...classic divide and conquer scenario. And, most of us sat around like ostriches going to work paying our bills watching TV not dreaming what was going on right under our noses. But, this is what you call consequences to choices. And, I pray the day does not come that armed men come to my door to try to forcefully remove me because they think it is the "right thing to do"...I pray that a natural disaster doesn't wipe out my home...I pray that if I have to go back to a certain amount of the ancient hunter/gatherer mentality that the good Lord makes the way. That is what I pray, what I know, the Bible says end times will be hard, natural disasters, etc. will increase and only those who are prepared will stand a chance. So, I hope everyone who reads this will also strive to "put back more than they take", get active and if nothing else plant some tomatoes in a bucket...care for that bucket of tomatoes and if you do not like tomatoes find someone who does and give them to them. Or, better yet, plant something you will eat. And, I find the time to be active here, and I find the time to make happen the important things...no cable, no Xbox, but a laptop and a smartphone that is used to promote the lifestyle I actively live, not just talk about. I believe in technology but I also deeply understood what that www stood for...world wide meant exactly world wide. You can try to "hide under the radar"...not sure how successful you would be if truly a target by a determined force...especially with today's technology. So, the martial law thing is just another one of those worries and concerns added to the list of all the other craziness in this world. A long journey for a short path...just an opinion from one fifty year old woman. I strive for a balance physically, mentally and spiritually.

You have a point, certainly life is more important and always will be. That investment helped to raise 3 girls, gave them stability I did not have growing up...my Momma changed families like most people change their underwear...always moving. I was determined to stay in one place with one man, if at all possible, I missed it the first marriage, been married 22 years this go around, single with identical twins for 8 years in between marriages. Stability is way up there on my list of wants! I have often wondered if all that pillar to post stuff growing up is giving me the capability to be successful at bugging out if the need does arrive, I was pretty successful at graduating high school, getting a decent job and then starting my own company that has successfully shown at least enough of a profit thru these last 20 years to pay for our home(a doublewide on an acre) and keep the lights on, and society was constantly telling me how worthless I was because of my Mom and Dad(alcoholic). As a child I was even kicked out of a church because of my Momma's choices...and, now, unfortunately she is one of those full fledged prescription drug addicts and the only time you hear from her is when she wants drugs. My Dad hasn't spoken to me in over 13 years, since I called to tell him his son was going to have a heart transplant at 29 years old...he actually moved and left no forwarding address. I have had more strangers be kind to me than my own family...I have heard that blood is thicker than water...not always, I am a testament to that. Leaves me with a unique perspective on a lot of issues...be thankful for your Mom...not every Mom tries.
Now, onto martial law...I have a BOB, and I have seriously been working on my stamina for walking. I only weigh 125 lbs. and I am 6' tall, I cannot carry much weight. I do not like violence and try to avoid it all costs...but, if you invade my home, my community...under almost any circumstance...well, I heard a song one time that said you must stand for something or you will fall for anything...not sure I can just walk away! There are almost 30 years of blood, sweat, tears, laughter, memories and money invested in this doublewide...granted it is not much but it is ours. So, I still sit on that fence and I do not know what the future will bring...will I get to stay or will I have to go...I am trying to prepare for both. As of right now, I strive for a balance of practicing to grow my own food and the ability to forage off the land, and have clean water. If I have just those two skills, especially me being a woman, I should be able to survive and maybe even thrive, no matter the future. I will have something worthwhile to bring to anyone's camp, if I find myself run out of my own! I will continue to learn and practice what I am learning until the day the Lord sees fit to end it.
first,i must admit.that you have had a hard time of it.and it appears to me that you have a good head on your shoulders.and with good morals.having stability in ones life is of great importance..be it now,and after a shtf situation alike..stability needs to be there,for one person and families alike..and that should be at the top of everyones list..standing for something should always be a part of a persons life.or the person is liable to fail in life..and it looks like that you stand for all the right things in life.and im sure that your husband and kids are proud of you.keeping your land and home is of great importance...the land here is idea for gardens.there's ample water supply here..i live 6 miles out of town..but yet,i'll have to bug out eventually...but the family is more important.i do intend to bug in.but yet.i know that wont last..in which we will bug out no matter what when the time comes.i'll hate the idea of leaving things behind.but yet,it'll be a must.and i hope that i'll have a bug out location by the time that happens..
None of us truly knows what will happen tomorrow, it's why I like to say, I am prepping for what I don't know not what I do know. Prepping is like a religion, it gives hope, hope being the foundation to survivability! Prepping is only 1% what we learn is 99% of survivability, we must put more emphasis on learning not how much gear we have. Martial Law would be no different then any other SHTF scenario.
A suggestion for those of us who are stuck in populated areas that are more prone to coming under Martial Law quickly: Do not put all your preps in one place. Keep your kitchen looking like everyone else's with just a week or two worth of food in it. Hide the rest in unlikely places whenever possible. Same with weapons, water, bug out gear, etc.. If the city comes under Martial Law for any length of time they may confiscate what you have if you have a lot - unless they don't know it exists.

Martial Law may state they can enter and seize items in my home. However, gonna be a lot of blood shed on the intruding parties side. My Common Sense is a little different but no one is entering my home to seize anything, lol. You will be silenced from over 900 meters away easy. Americans built this land and country. I worked my ass off to get forward in life. Martial Law (BEING used now a days) is just to keep folks from standing against the corrupt government, because they know a lot of people are getting pissed off with the B.S. that traitorous Thug and his wife we have in office are currently destroying this Beautiful Country!

first thing I can think of is DONT live in a big city cos that is where it will start. I really don't think especially in the UK that martial law will come to small rural market towns in the far south west with a population of 1,300 where nothing much happens anyway, it just really isn't worth their time, and with only 136,000 police and 82,000 troops nationally to police a population of 64 million they are going to be stretched very thinly.
I think that people, like Oath Keepers, will be the determining factor as to whether or not "martial law" turns into "open revolt." An uprising is just that... unless a large portion of the goverment collapses because those ordered to kill or disarm their fellow citizens refuse to.

The oath keepers lost a little bit of credibility over the bundy situation, how much credibility the oath keepers have right now is up for debate unfortunately

Unfortunately, even conservative media played up all that was wrong with Bundy (if only he'd had a professional political speech writer) and very few mentioned how wrong the BLM(?) handled it and I think I only heard once that Harry Reid had a personal ulterior motive for trying to take Bundy's land which had nothing to do with taxes and everything to do with Reid wanting to sell the land to the Chinese.
O/K the bundys and the bundy's so called chief security had a fallen out with the higher echelon from with in the O/K that cost some of the O/K on the ground at the ranch to splinter causing a rift with some of it's followers, the media played it up giving some what of a black eye on how dysfunctional the O/K's are.
First off FEMA is a Bad Group. They may try to show support on the outside, however they screw with you once your in their hands and under the table cloth. They support and participate in larger groups like DARPA and other defense program/agencies that have (unofficial report) used and still use humans as test subjects for their testing with virus's and biological warfare plans.
Secondly, NSA is a no joke. They watch everything from your credit card transactions down to you taking a s*** in your own home whether or not, you have video streaming in your home (satellite thermal imaging).
Third, if your going to worry about "Big Brother" when it comes to prepping. Space your online transactions and ways you pay for items. Have friends and/or relatives pitch in and make separate transactions and use different shipping locations/addresses. It's very possible to stay under the radar.
And lastly, if SHTF and you decide to bug out. Pack light! Stay in small groups! Travel at night! Be cautious and always watch your six. Never leave a trail.
Yes, I would shoot back. I will not allow an illegal disarm from anyone! I have intention of not following what the government wants of me, since they will not follow what the people want of them. Today's government are full of crocks and thieves. They are power hunger and do not give a damn about who they hurt or how many. Take Barack Hussein Obama for instance, he has made at least 14 confirmed illegal actions without the congress approval or consent to place actions into affect. He has empowered his wife to pass rulings and bills on us "We the People" in our schools and daily lives! I have lost hope and backing for this government. It may be heartless but the government needs to fall, so we may rebuild this nation and structure a new government or (force the current president and his cabinet out physically).
...then again, much of what we enjoy today is the result of direct involvement of DARPA, gps, networking, graphic user interface etc.. the list is long

I think you're right. Too bad we don't have statesmen anymore. Kinda hard to teach the younger generations about how our country is supposed to be when the liberal machine has been working tirelessly to turn us into the opposite.
The FEMA jacketed people you see in the field are fat heads...most come from other civilian government agencies that have to fess them up as part of FEMA's growing reaction teams. Pretty much the philosophy of military mobilizations, your just getting unknown qualities and unknown quantities in the field. No different than when I was active and they took my support folks to work security, your not getting the elite out there, but folks who have little if any training to handle a determined force. I've had to deal with many of these num-nuts with the blue jackets...and most have their heads up their ($*)...in fact, easiest way to disarm them is to pour them a cup of coffee and offer them a nice comfy chair. Okay, some claim to be former SEAL Rangers, SOF guys...most don't even know where the business end is located, but when they claim to be one, I always have my eyes on them...fakes and liars...when the real crap hits, they will be the first ones running out of the burning building as I enter one. The FEMA office guys...your simply not going to see them leave Washington, despite their size, they are all glued to their desks or are working in those high priced video tron rooms that we as tax payers have allowed them to have, because of lack of oversight. I know the conspiracy folks say..hey look their buying all those fancy machines...we used in Iraq or Afghanistan...well its going to have to go somewhere is my attitude...from the front page of CNN...you saw some of that that little event near St. Louis. Did you see the LE sniper guy and the nice black Gen 2 vehicles...what a nice pose. One of my family guys two months ago told me that the Reserve and National Guard were off-casting second generation armor...we've placed a sealed bid on some of it and guess what it was accepted. So what does that tell you...the government, provided you pass their background checks will discard if for profit.
As for NSA...no secrets there, but then lets face it, it old news...I've moved on with my life...back in the early 90's, we could hear the toilets flushing in the Kremlin, we certainly knew when the Soviets were firing off their rockets in the Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan...so if they want to hear me drop one...go right ahead, but I usually get a few pages through a good novel before I flush.
I am not trying to make light of the subject, but if they want us, their going to find us regardless of what we do...the trick will be are we worth it to them. My opinion, if you are benign, your fine, if your active, their going to have great intell on you and from there, they will decide what type of real threat you really are to the security of this nation. Really if you want to completely go off the grid and go undetected a few things, your going to do...1) stay off the internet completely, 2) move to the most rural spot in the U.S...maybe where Maverick lives is a great spot...high canopy forestation and oh yeah figure a way to let local government not identify your land holdings as this is public record, 3) Buy everything via cash from a trusted store...and I don't mean USPS, FEDEX...because remember they are tracked too 4). Assume new identities, which is pretty hard to do, unless you know someone who can create them for you and the only ones I know that are really affective work for Uncle Sam. I could go on with how to disappear, but most of you know this, so its not really worth writing it all on the forum. But if that's what you want and you've got your family support behind it, then good luck. For me, I'll just continue to prep and see what happens. Kind like waiting for the big earthquake or meteor to strike...just a bunch of what ifs. I'd rather spend the rest of the time I have enjoying my family and having the confidence we are prepared to the best of our ability.
That is what I am trying to do. Pay cash to stores that I trust and/or don't know who I am (and don't have cameras to track me). Working to get further off the grid...
Removing dependency on the grid isn't difficult just takes money to get to that point depending on location, removing one self from existence is a far more difficult thing to do like, not renewing drivers license, no vehicle, being of great distances from civilization etc.., even the mountain men of the 19th century had to come in to town or visit trading post for supplies. Wherever the homestead is located satellite image will detect your presence be it NASA, USGS, NOAA, GOOGLE even states that use a GIS base mapping system etc... now you have the government using facial recognition as a law enforcement tool, latest report is that these systems will be installed in squad cars kind of like the license plate scanners that is being implemented in some areas. What are you going to do for currency? you would have to work under the table, if you work, you can't be that far from civilization, then the age thing to throw in the mix due to limitations. I would love to disappear but at my age now, starting over in the mountains with limited supplies lets just say, certainly not a task I would want to start.
I really believe their is no way to escape anyone who is determined to find you out, despite every careful step you may take. I made a decision about 3 years ago, that it simply is not going to work in my case, you have to pay a bill some day and whether its electricity, gas, water...they've got your number and location. Its also extremely expensive and also in my opinion, unless your on the lamb...to do so. I've heard many people that state they are going under the grid, but then come back later, learning its totally not possible to do so. Unless you have zero contact with people...meaning somewhere in Alaska...and when I mean that way up past the permafrost line. So I will keep paying my bills and go through the drill and yes, buy from the internet...because if I am posting on DPF or even just watching a video on Netflix...they know where I am.
Oh and with respect, I am not trying to dissuade you, but if you have family...they have to have total buy in. My wife and son...they'd veto it in a heart beat and tell me to go move out into the wilderness, but they'd be staying. Not that they don't love me, but they are not going to pull up stakes until the real crap hit.
If you are in a area that had Martial law declared for some reason do not go out armed or even go out unless you have to . Be respectful of athority they do not want to be there anymore than you want them there . If you are on the outskirts of that area you want even know it except for ocasional patrol .

I think you are right about the Military and Law Enforcement Officers. Unfortunately, the executive branch has made it a point to root out and "retire" our experienced senior officers while at the same time making senior non-coms feel so unwelcome (even to the point of sending them lay-off notices while they are stationed in a combat zone) that they are leaving in droves. They are amping up their advertising to illegal aliens that they can fast-track their citizenship by joining our armed forces. That rings all sorts of General Quarters alarms in my head.
Unless you've got a good way to hide from satellites and drones with multi-optics, won't matter what kind of OPSEC you had prior to SHTF. And since most of us don't have such means, yes, they would know where we are. The bigger question is whether or not they could afford to spend the resources to deal with you. Hopefully, they'd be more willing to maybe make a deal, where you become a supplier, etc.
Basically, no matter what you do, you aren't going to be able to compete with tanks, drones, and cruise missiles, so once they DO take notice of you, hopefully you can strike a deal (or run like hell and go into further hiding, but without all those comforts). I imagine this is where resistance fighters would come from. Let's just hope this particular scenario never pans out.
