Are You Ashamed To Be White?

racism-white-privilege.jpg

I just had to share this with you. Something I read online. It’s from someone I happen to be acquainted with in our tiny little town. Though I pretty much knew this person is of the left persuasion (which had no affect on our acquaintance), it really surprised me to read her statement.
Here is the pertinent portion of what she said:
“I’ve never considered myself to be racist but in the past couple weeks I’m ashamed to be white. It’s time. To take a stand – a stand for anti-racism. It is heart breaking to realize how clueless I’ve been about my white privilege.”
~ said a person
I honestly have difficulty wrapping my head around the mindset of someone saying that.
That sentiment is the essence of the BLM guilt that is being put upon “white” people. And it’s working.
This person went on to say that she does not want to be friends with anyone who doesn’t agree with this notion. Although I wouldn’t say that she and I are “friends”, I’ve had no issue with our acquaintance and occasional interactions in town.
It is somewhat stunning to observe how so many people are viscerally aligning themselves. And they’re doing it to an extent which clearly alienates themselves from any middle ground. This recent Floyd death and BLM movement is really deepening the divide while using the color of one’s skin as the dividing line. Thusly, if you’re “white”, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Though this person (as far as I know) has no clue that I run this website, I would like to respond to the statement in general. Because we hear this kind of talk all the time these days… White leftists all across the nation are ashamed of themselves. But not me. And here’s why…

Racism and White Privilege
First, what is racism? Let me quote Martin Luther King…
“I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
My skin color happens to be “white”. I was born that way. I had no choice in the matter and feel no guilt in that regard.
And by the way… Whatever my ancestors did or didn’t do, has nothing at all to do with me and who I am. Are you with me so far?
Racism, in my opinion, is when skin color is used or deterministic. BLM (and the guilt of the person ashamed to be “white”) is racist. Why? Because it’s about the color of one’s skin.
My normal behavior of establishing opinion of another person is as MLK says. The content of their character. Their actions. Their words. Deeds. I could care less if you’re black, brown, or white. It’s the other stuff that matters.
Tying in with the Floyd death, that incident was about two people and what happened between them. It was about the act itself. If that cop put his knee on the neck of a “white” person, this would not be in the news at all. Instead, the incident is used to flame up more racial division.

What about “white privilege”?
We hear it all the time. But what are they talking about?
Well, it’s the notion that “white” people have more rights than “black” people. And/or an unfair advantage for this or that. Therefore if you’re “white” you should feel guilty about it. Why? Because you’re “white”. By the way, that’s racism (being guilted because you happen to be “white”).
Do or did I have an advantage in life because I happened to be born “white”? Maybe. But that’s just how the universe worked out for me. I was born to a white middle class family.
Along the same notion of “white privilege”, am I jealous of other whites who were born to a wealthy family? Do those white people have an advantage over me and therefore should be ashamed of themselves? See where I’m going with this?
It doesn’t matter one little bit to me. It’s about what I do with my life that matters. I feel no guilt or shame in who I am as a person. I just so happened to be “white”. So don’t put your guilt trip on me.

Why am I bringing this to your attention today?
A few reasons. One, it exposes the white guilt in so much of “left” America. Two, it exposes how well the messaging is working. Three, it’s everywhere. Even in your neck of the woods.
As the battle lines are being drawn in this simmering civil war, there are no clear lines in the traditional sense. Rather it’s between individuals all across the land who hold very opposing views of the world. Race and racism is just one of several deep divisions that have been put upon us (a classic tactic of the left).
Sure there are pockets of deep Blue and Red. But there’s lots of geographical mixing going on too. That makes Purple. But when you zoom in closer, it ultimately comes down to the individual. Who’s who. That’s where the lines are drawn. The content of one’s character.

Not "no", but "HELL NO!"

White privilege? I don't believe in it. Systemic racism? You bet it exists! Is there a National Association for the Advancement of White People? No. Is there a White History Month? No, Is there Affirmative Action for white people? No. White Entertainment Television? Nope.

I'm 100% for abolishing all forms of systemic racism in this country.

I have a friend who is a dual US & South African citizen, but he grew up over there. He is as white as white can be. He moved here to go to college and later on married a black woman from the states. Of course he takes her back to South Africa from time to time to visit. She HATES it there because the locals refer to her as whitey and pale face because she is not pure dark-skinned African. That tells a very interesting story about perspective on whiteness.

Depending on who you ask, I am either white or not white. My skin is light brown, my hair is black, and my eyes are brown. So people see me as hispanic or latino or possibly even mulatto. But I am also genetically European and celebrate my Spanish, Portuguese, German, and Dutch heritage. I have never seen white privilege. I have however seen many other races get a handouts or special benefits that white people were not entitled too.

First you have to define the word quality,

Definition of QUALITY

You can add all the prefixes you want but it won't change the word being used against those who most fit the word,NOW define REALITY.

Want Equality then get busy doing something for a change that makes you "equal" instead fo continuously proving just the opposite.
That's an interesting and thought provoking point of view.
I'm not saying much on anything that's going on, stay stress free so I dont have a heart attack.
I find it interesting to see an Hispanic individual and expect a Mexican accent if even English, but instead a thick Texas drawl comes out.

Same with a black Texan I met that sounded like Tom Brokaw.

Ashamed of being white? Hell no.

Very good point Patch. This negative news can't be good for us yet sometimes it builds up so much venting may or may not be good ,not sure anymore about much of anything.:huggs:Take care.

The young SJW types I meet at local events have tried, but failed to get me to acknowledge this “White Privilege” thing. I just laugh at them. I point out, as this author did, that saying that is RACIST! Giving a whole segment of society a label based on skin color is by definition: RACIST.

They go over all the same talking points, how I had an easier time in life because of my color… Blah, blah, blah. I ask if they have any knowledge of my upbringing. Any idea of what kind of environment I was born into? Did they know if I even went to school or had access to a school anywhere near me? Do they know how old I was when I got my first job? Do they know what it was? No, they know nothing of me and my “whiteness” they pigeon hole me simply due to skin color. That is RACIST.

And I also had discussions with them when the whole “gender fluid” thing was all the rage. Told them that was the stupidest thing I had ever heard of. “Gender non-binary”? Yeah. Ok. Try reproducing with a bunch of gender fluid folks and see how that goes for you.

We would actually have discussions, civil ones at that. Maybe because their parents were around as I am the same age as their grandparents are. But they could not come up with any valid reasoning that I could find to sway me to their way of looking at much. It was more ‘feelings’ than fact.

Not for one second. It makes me angry to even discuss it. Martin Luther King would be rolling over in his grave.

I have earned every single thing I have ever gotten in this life through hard work, and sweat of brow. Nobody ever gave me anything, and I have been kicked in the crotch on many occasions, more than once by a Black Male. You pick yourself back up and move on. It has nothing to do with race.

Since when can only white people be racist? Has anyone heard the absurd demands coming out of Seattle? Do those not sound racist to you?

Equality is what you hear people harping. Show me two people who are equal. No two people are equal. Everyone has different skills, and different traits. Our DNA isn't even equal. Equality in the eyes of God. Equality of Opportunity. Equality under the Law, of course. What else is equal?

I am not apologizing to anyone for anything, and the only entity to which I will take a knee is God.

All this change sounds so good till consequences are realized, lol.l
I usr to get all caught up in the songs and movies of the socialist writers until reality struck home. Still ike soem of the songs but listen with open mind now.

Nope not ashamed of being white. . . That's like someone telling me I should be ashamed of being female. It's just crazy talk. God made me and everyone else how he saw fit and he is never wrong. Something IS wrong in a persons head if they have a problem with how God created them though.

No! Everything I have was earned. Nobody gave me anything. I grew up so poor we had days there was very little to eat. I went to school hungry and nobody gave me a free lunch. The idiots shouting white privilege most likely grew up the way they did because everything was given to them. Either their parents or the government.

No, of course not. Why be ashamed of something you cannot change. I was born how I look.
Now, I do think it's possible and sometimes necessary to be ashamed of your actions. Actions are a choice. Color is not.
Two of my grandsons like to tease when they get a lecture from me, and ask me why they can't play the black card. Ha Ha. I tell them that they are as much black as they are white, and there's no card for anyone. Where we live, white is a minority, and black is even more of a minority. We talk about race openly with our grandsons and their mama. She thinks BLM needs to get over themselves. She knows many black racists and it makes her mad, and because she does well for herself, she gets angry that people say she's "trying to be white". I think we need to focus on the human race. Hold people responsible for their own actions, not the actions of their ancestors. I don't think much of people that think it's a cool "look at me" thing to apologize for being not black, or to take responsibility for the slavery of generations ago. Hollywood is really bad at this. We're not all in this together, we're not all racist, we're not all privileged.

I am ashamed for people who are ashamed of being white. Or black. Or brown. Or any other skin color. I can't imagine how sad it must be to feel ashamed for some event(s) you didn't participate in, just because of the color you happen to be. That is a sign of a very feeble mind. And those who try to make you feel ashamed for something you didn't do? Their minds aren't necessarily feeble, just sick. I'm not ashamed for them, I actively dislike them.

I happen to be proud of who I am. It has nothing to do with the color of my skin. It is because I have worked to become worthy of my pay, worked to be the kind of person that others respect. I respected myself enough to show respect for others who deserved it. I help others without being asked, I give knowledge when it is desired, and share what I have with those who deserve it.
I am not perfect or better, just a man.

Ashamed, of what? I was born white, but have worked in some form or another from a young age. many years later still workin and will be for more years to come.

The idiots protesting and expecting everyone to bow down and be ashamed of yourself just don't have good sense. None of them will even debate the topic. Only get angry when you don't agree with them. Their opinions are the only ones that count. I call BS. I'll treat everyone fairly, as long as they do the same.

We treat all with the same respect we are treated with.
Too often I have heard working with some " its because I'm black isn't it". Well no it wasn't but yes now it is because your black and using race card.
My cousin wanted ot coem to family reunion and bring her neice who has black boyfriend and biracial child. I told her no drug pushers were welcome and so now some accuse me of being racisst, tough crapola. It could be dangerous too.
I don't have that much in common with most white people today much less deal with offending someone.

The ones protesting are the ones that are ashamed. I attribute it to lack of personal pride. They are not proud of who they are so they have to drag everyone down to their level.

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

I don't think I have to remind anybody who said this. Isn't that exactly what all of these protesters are doing? If we don't agree with them, or if we refuse to believe in white privilege we are considered racist.
