hahahaha!! We are poor enough to qualify for Medicaid, and we could get food stamps ( but of course don't , we would suck as farmers if we did)
So I hate us...hmmm....will have to tell husband "hey I hate you because you are poor"

You know WHY we are poor? Because I got sick and tired of working a stressful job only to see more income than we now make in 3 years going down the tubes in taxes to pay for the ghetto trash, third world countries that can't fix their own issues and just plain lazy people that don't want to work. It made me so mad that I decided I will not pay taxes anymore. The only way to do that is to have income below the limit of where you have to pay. If you can't beat them , join them. Only problem LOL we are really poor now....
I don;t care it was worth it, been doing what I want for almost 10 years now

You know what happens when you are poor? You get free healthcare, you get almost free college education, you get free food, surprised they don't give you a free vehicle

oh and we really ARE legit farmers, filing schedule F every year , just sent off our tax stuff to the accountant
Everything we do is 100% legal
You may qualify for a right wing medal in self loathing and deprivation.

I sense an attitude related to a combination of forum sites. Get over it.... life sucks sometimes, but this isn't one of those times.
Please explain your reply. I don’t get news from forums, and the fact that I am concerned about my account numbers and personally identifiable information being in unauthorized hands isn’t unreasonable. You aren’t concerned about your information being handled by young men who may or may not share it with whomever? The do have the data, no one is contesting that. The group that took it may be very bright, but are they trustworthy? One was fired from an internship for sharing proprietary information with a competing company.
Actually, this is the only “forum” that I have monitored.

Yep. We have a couple of active trolls on here now.
I really don't mind if someone disagrees with a way of thinking if they explain their case in how they see it. Good conversation can take place then. But to throw a headline out there like the grain thing, an opinion piece headline at that, and any conversation about it and experience about it from real life people on here is followed up with...you hate poor people, you hate farmers, you get a medal in self loathing and deprivation.... It is no wonder there is division in the US. These trolls have been "taught" to throw insults, argue with twisted opinion pieces, and expect hardworking homesteaders and farmers to just sit there and take it. The people on this forum live a real life here.

I thought we were talking homesteading, Slade. We were talking about it being a rough couple of years, the title of this thread.
You were not talking about homesteading with the rest of us, you were busy insulting Sonya saying that she hates farmers and she hates poor people, and that she gets a medal in self loathing and deprivation. So I don't think you love it and want to participate. I don't think you homestead or farm at all. I think you just grab homesteading type info online and regurgitate it here and there on the forum to appear to be one, when in fact you are just here to insult our members.

that's stupid! So you want American farmers to grow grain and then basically give it away to terrorist countries. Wow

If they have too much grain to sell IN the US, or paying countries ( like China or Europe) then maybe they need to grow something else!!
If I don't sell enough Kohlrabi or something at the farmers market because I planted a huge field of them ( and not too many people eat them or know what it even is) , I am going to plant MORE broccolie the next time because I sell all of them
Good points, but Kohlrabi? I think it must have came from a alien planet.....also egg plant looks like something from planet ZeeZorp.

Evidence of climate change is all around us. Hottest years ever recorded. Floods in North Carolina. Fires in California, all off the norm.
It's weather and mans presence in the way of natural events....And also we are in a inter glacial period, the ice is melting just like many many times before. And the world will freeze over just like many times before.
Around 12,500 years ago there was a glacial damned lake here in montana that broke open and flooded all the way to pacific ocean with 20 times the flow of all the rivers on earth right now..... things happen and sending millions to viet nam to get them to not burn their garbage isn't going to have much of a world wide effect. Mankind adapts or most perish. It has happened before.

Maybe a bit more towards the topic. The bill (5717) which cuts federal funding to sanctuary cities starts in the next fiscal year, October 1st. That will give us a growing season or about more 6 months to be more ready for uncertain times.

You believe all the silly things you want.

Just repeating all the "silly" things you say, Slade.
Hey, why don't you contribute something good and useful to the forum? Something helpful that you have learned for the homesteaders and farmers here.
Show me yours and then I will show you mine.

I'll start.
We always made sauerkraut with our winter cabbage as we could only store it fresh for a couple months.
We have a big hoop house so I dug holes and put the cabbage wrapped in metal mesh bags upside down in the holes and buried them. Leaving just the roots above ground. They now stay fresh 6 or 7 months.
We get 20 below weather and put a frost blanket over the top when it's 30 deg or below.
